CII to Promote Competitiveness Through Lean Manufacturing in Chandigarh MSMEs

Chandigarh 11th June:- Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has proposed to start a Lean Manufacturing Competitiveness Cluster to support the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Chandigarh Region to become globally competitive.

Amarbir Singh, Vice Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council & Proprietor, Indian Polymer Industries said that the cluster would begin under the Lean Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India's scheme that aims at increasing productivity, upgrading technology and conserving energy in the manufacturing processes as well as expanding domestic and global market share of Indian MSME products. He was sharing his views at an Awareness Session on Lean Manufacturing Competitiveness Cluster organised at CII NR Headquarters in Sector 31 A, here today.

Amarbir Singh, added that the objective of this program is to enhance the manufacturing competitiveness for the MSMEs by applying Lean Techniques to identify and eliminate waste in the manufacturing process and also to streamline the system. To face the global competition and to grow in the competitive scenario, the industry has to be cost competitive and should be innovative, as this will help organizations to grow & will make them capable of facing the global challenge.

SS Dhillon, Director (Punjab and Chandigarh), MSME Development Institute, Ministry of MSME, GoI apprised that the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, GoI has adopted the cluster development approach as a key strategy for enhancing the productivity and competitiveness as well as capacity building of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) and their collectives in the country. He explained the various schemes started by Ministry of MSMEs, particularly, Micro & Small Enterprises Cluster Development Programme Scheme (MSE-CDP).

Anurag Rastogi, Deputy Director, National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), Quality Council of India sharing his views on providing the workforce with right skill sets for MSMEs informed that "Training to more than 1800 Polytechnic and ITI teachers on QMS/QT tools has already been given and nearly 198 awareness programs on QMS/QT tools have been conducted with 7000 individuals trained on these tools. "One of the components of NMCP is Lean Manufacturing Competitiveness Scheme and its upscale version ready to be launched after successful completion of first phase. The scheme will be implemented in 500 mini clusters in 12th Five Year Plan.

Pikender Pal Singh, Regional Director, CII NR shared that CII's aim is to see the Indian SMEs integrate strongly into the global supply chain and for this CII has taken an important initiative to promote competitiveness in Chandigarh, through Cluster Formation Approach.
