Webinar on 'Basic Financial Literacy: Banking and Financial Services’ organised at GGSCW-26

Chandigarh Oct.26, 2021:- The Post Graduate Department of Commerce of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, organised a webinar on 'Basic Financial Literacy- Banking and Financial Services' on 25th October, 2021.

The webinar was addressed by Manohar Puranik who is a Financial Education Counselor with the ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, Vadodara, since 2017.

The main objective of the event was to enlighten the students about the importance of savings to meet the uncertainties of the future. During the webinar, Manohar stressed on the difference between savings and regular income. He emphasized on regulating our spending habits and avoiding impulsive buying. He focused on the fact that the vital fundamental of life is 'Saving First and Then Spend'. The speaker highlighted how imperative it is for every individual to have a bank account. He made the students aware of the procedures and requirements for opening an account in a bank and also, how online banking has made our life easy. He also guided the students on how savings can be invested in various options available in the market to attract better returns. He concluded the session by alerting the students of online frauds and suggested ways of remaining safe from the same. The webinar was conducted online and as many as 150 undergraduate and postgraduate students participated from the Department of Commerce. On the whole, it proved to be a highly informative session.

Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Head of Department, Department of Commerce concluded the session with a vote of thanks. She thanked Manohar for the insightful and enriching session and urged the students to adhere to his instructions while using online banking.

The Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur, also thanked the speaker for enlightening the students about this vital topic and appreciated the efforts of the Department of Commerce in organising the event.
