Chandigarh Sept.02, 2021:-  On the complaint of Haryana Congress, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has summoned a report from the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Karnal regarding the barbaric lathi charge on farmers on August 28 at Bastara toll plaza in Karnal. Four weeks time has been given to submit the report. President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Kumari Selja gave this information in a statement issued here today.

Kumari Selja has welcomed the move of the NHRC and said that she was hopeful that this step will pave the way for justice to the farmers. She said that after this step of the NHRC, she is hopeful that the administration will submit the report to the NHRC after conducting a fair investigation and strict action will be taken against the guilty with immediate effect. Kumari Selja said that a Congress delegation had met the NHRC two days ago regarding the lathi charge on farmers and put everything before the commission including a pen drive, media reports and also submitted a memorandum requesting to grant justice to the farmers. She added that the Congress party had demanded that strictest action should be taken against the criminals, who carried out this lathi charge and cases should be registered against them. The NHRC had assured the Congress delegation of appropriate action.

Kumari Selja said that what happened on August 28 is shameful. Farmers were lathi-charged, their blood was shed and this was not the first time. This government has done this many times, but the most shocking thing is the way the farmers were treated. It was already decided by this government and the administration that the farmers would be lathi charged. It can be imagined that when officers use such an attitude, it cannot be done without the government's support. In Kurukshetra, Hisar, Sirsa, Palwal and Karnal, the blood of farmers was shed, who were raising their voices peacefully. She expressed hope that this autocratic government, which believes in violence, will get some wisdom and never again carry out such barbaric action against the people of Haryana.

Kumari Selja said that under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party stands firmly with the farmers. The Congress party will fight to get justice to the farmers at every level. The dictator government should understand that the victory will be of the farmers.
