Chandigarh August 24, 2021:- The NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised an online lecture on 'Importance of Yoga' as part of Fit India Run- Amrit Mahotsav@75. The resource person was Ms. Keisham Monarita, Gold Medalist in Yoga at National and International Level. The session began with Om chanting followed by explanation of the meaning and origins of yoga. Thereafter, the expert discussed in detail different types of yoga i.e. Karma yoga (yoga through action), Jnana yoga (yoga through knowledge), Hatha yoga, Raja yoga (king/ supreme yoga), Bhakti yoga (yoga through devotion) and Astang yoga. Further, benefits and correct technique of doing Pranayama were explained along with practical demonstration of the different types of pranayama. The session concluded with the brief explanation about the benefits of practicing yoga daily.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava, an ardent follower of yoga, expressed appreciation for this initiative of NSS units to sensitise students about the importance of yoga. Highlighting the significant role of yoga in promoting holistic well-being, she said that it is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition that has played a significant role in psycho-social care and fighting the effects of social isolation during the pandemic ridden times.
