PU organizes Fourth International and Sixth Indian Psychological Science Congress

Chandigarh 18th September:- The Fourth International and Sixth Indian Psychological Science Congress organized by the Department of Psychology, Panjab University(PU), Chandigarh in association with the National Association of Psychological Science began at PU
today. The Global Partners of the Congress are "World Without Anger", "Emotional Literacy League" and "South Asian Association of Psychologists." Dr. S. S. Phulia, IAS, Govt.of Haryana in his inaugural address, referred to the increasing need for happiness in people due to the increasing stress in all aspects of life.

Prof. S.N.Ghosh, Department of Psychology, H.P. University, Shimla in his keynote speech focused on the Global Well Being. He referred to the fact that India stands 143rd position out of a total of 188 countries, in terms of well being. He held that Psychology needs to change its target population from individuals to wider segments of humanity. He highlighted that Psychological well-being needs to be studied in conjunction with Environmental and Social variables. Eighty percent of diseases can be prevented though behavior changes. He said that ecological changes like change in Sea level, change in temperature etc. are changing human behavior and therefore interventions need to be devised accordingly through a mixed methods approach of research.

Prof. H.K.Chhabra, Chairperson, Deptt. Of Psychology and Convener of this Congress, in
her welcome address urged for acknowledging and utilizing the knowledge to be generated
in the Conference in the spirit of "Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya", the motto of PU, to welcome
and enable enlightenment.

Dr. Roshan Lal, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, the Conference Director introduced the National Association of Psychological Science. A book "Krodh Rahit Jivan" was released on the occasion alongwith a special issue of the Journal of Psychological Science. A book from the Group "World Without Anger"was also released.

Seven Countries and Twenty three States of India are participating in it. Around seven hundred and eighty papers shall be presented during the course of the conference.
