Chandigarh 26th September:- National Service Scheme (NSS) Day was celebrated by NSS Unit of National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The Chief Guest Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Dean, PGIMER, and Head School of Public Health presided over the function. Mrs. Meenakshi Agnihotri and Mrs. Shabana Perveen organized the function under the guidance of Dr. Sandhya Ghai, Principal, NINE. A brief report of the NSS activities was depicted with photographs of the events in the previous year. The objectives & motto of NSS was highlighted by the senior volunteer. Prof. Rajesh Kumar encouraged volunteers to participate in activities which bring them close to community. He appreciated the NSSS volunteers for various activities they performed last year. A cultural programme including patriotic songs, dance on women empowerment, skit on social evils etc was carried out by the volunteers.
Dr. Sandhya Ghai, appreciated the organizers and volunteers for the wonderful program. Citing the famous saying "Charity begins at home", she highlighted the importance of moral values inculcated during child hood at home by the parents and then by teachers in school & college. She encouraged volunteers to carry out services to the suffering and downtrodden community not only as a volunteer of NSS but as a human being anywhere in neighborhood or around wherever it is needed. She further added that we are lucky that we are into nursing profession & get opportunity to serve the sick. She encouraged the volunteers to serve the sick and community whole heartedly.
At the end new volunteers were administered the pledge.
