Uber Installs Breathalysers to Raise Awareness and Reduce Drunk Driving Incidents

Chandigarh 28th July:- Uber, the technology company that seamlessly connects riders with drivers at the push of a button, has today announced its partnership with the Chandigarh Police for the launch of "Don't Drink and Drive" initiative. The initiative kicked-off with the unveiling of the first Uber Breathalyser at the Chandigarh Golf Club by Tajender Pal Singh Luthra, Inspector General of Police, Chandigarh and Amit Jain, President, Uber India.

 At the inauguration, Tajender Pal Singh Luthra, Inspector General of Police said that we are committed to reduce cases of drunk driving in the city and are pleased to partner with Uber to make Chandigarh's roads safer for its residents. Uber Breathalyser is a great innovation to help people make responsible decision around their own and others safety on the roads."

Uber Breathalyser is a kiosk that calculates the blood alcohol content (BAC) in a person's body through an app that's fixed to the device. If the person's BAC is higher than permissible limit for driving, they can sign up and take their first free ride on Uber.

Amit Jain, President, Uber India said that we are excited to partner with the Chandigarh Police to drive awareness against drunk driving. We will continue to work across cities and authorities, to raise awareness and provide alternative transportation options like Uber that can help bring down incidents related to drunk driving. He added that Uber's rapidly expanding global presence continues to bring people and their cities closer. Today Uber is available in 450 cities across 73 countries. The service is available in 27 Indian cities.

 Chandigarh is the third city, after Gurgaon and Mumbai where Uber has installed Uber Breathalysers to help raise awareness and reduce incidents of drunk driving.
