Chandigarh 24th May:-The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) today declared the results of matriculation examination. The Chairperson of the board, Dr. Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal released merit list in a press conference here. The top positions were again bagged by the girls. The board again prepared separate sportspersons and academic merit lists. In terms of academic merit lists, Simrandeep Kaur of B.G.S.U.S. senior secondary school Khadoor Sahib (Tarantaran) secured first position with 99.08 percent marks with Simranjit Kaur of Prabhakar Senior Secondary School Bhalla Colony Chheharta (Amritsar) securing 2nd position with 98.92 percent and Arsh Malhotra of Shivalik Model School Jagraon (Ludhiana) getting 3rd position with 98.77 percent marks.
In Sportspersons merit, Tanisha Sharma and Pushwinder Kaur of BCM senior secondary school jamalpur colony, focal point, Ludhiana bagged joint 1st position with 100 percent marks each, Damanpreet Kaur of Teja Singh Sutantar senior secondary school, Shimlapuri, Ludhiana achieved 2nd rank with 99.85 percent marks while Mehakjot Singh of the same school secured 3rd position with 99.69 percent marks.
Addressing the mediapersons, Chairperson Dr. Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal said that the result of the board this year stood at 72.25 percent which was better by 7.50 percent than previous year which was 65.77 percent. The state witnessed an increase in the number of students getting more than 80 percent marks for the second consecutive year. During present year, 39,041 students got 80 percent or more marks which included 10255 students studying in Government Schools. From point of view of subject wise results, Punjabi got the top billing with pass percentage remaining at 94.98 percent.
Dr. Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal said that a total of 355 students secured a place in merit and the student placed last in this meir list got 625 marks out of 650. The cut out list of merit stopped at 96.18 percent. Ludhiana achieved the top ranking in merit list with 121 students. Bathinda and Hoshiarpur had 29 students each, Patial had 28, Amritsar had 16 and Barnala had 15 students in the merit list.
The girl students also made their mark by stamping their authority in pass percentage whereas the result of rural area students was very good in matric like in 12th. The pass percentage of girls was 78.30 percent and that of boys was 67.43 percent. The pass percentage of rural area students was 72.66 percent and that of urban area students was 71.46 percent. The result of affiliated schools was 82.76 percent, associated schools 70.46 percent, Government Schools 69.03 percent and aided schools 69.28 percent.
Dr. Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal also disclosed that a total of 3, 42,330 students sat for the matriculation examination out of which 2, 47,340 students passed with the pass percentage remaining at 72.25 percent. The number of students who failed completely stood at 25,662 i.e. only 7.50 percent of the total students. Total 69,152 students (20.20 percent) got re-appear. The result of 176 students (0.05 percent) was withheld. District Wise, Tarntaran secured 1st rank with 93.24 percent pass percentage, Gurdaspur came second with 92.05 percent pass percentage, Amritsar came third with 89.41 percent pass percentage, Pathankot bagged 4th position with 82.68 percent pass percentage, Ferozepur got 5th rank with pass percentage of 74.51 percent and Hoshiarpur secured 6th position with pass percentage of 73.05 percent.
