Make in India a Tool to Social Transformation:Dr Arvind Panagariya

Chandigarh 22nd March:- Dr Panagariya, Vice-Chairman, NITI Aayog, Government of India, has said that Make In India (MII) was the only way to transform from agrarian; rural to modern industrial economy where designing, new technologies, ROBOTICS are not a threat to MII rather capturing the market on larger extent is the need of the hour. He said focusing on manufacturing will facilitate increase in country's GDP to be at par with the leading countries like China, South Korea and Taiwan. He was speaking at Summit on Operational Excellence (OPEX) at Delhi today.

While addressing the valedictory session, Padma Shri Dr Pritam Singh, Noted Management Thinker & Chief Executive officer, LEAD Centre, said Global Corporate Mahabharata had begun and Companies which were resilient could survive in any situation. He said Paranoid Behaviour in the manufacturing segment and developing internal capability were essential for continuous growth. He also said Leaders should have Olympian mindsets, to be leading and creating leaders all around.

SY Siddiqui, Conference Chairman and Chief Mentor, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, said that India would be a manufacturing Powerhouse under the 'Make In India' campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said significant benefits driving out of Operational excellence, include targeting leanness which would help in avoiding waste by keeping the system functioning as efficiently as possible; Understanding and exceeding customer expectations; Reducing cost, cycle-time and time-to-market; Developing skills and knowledge to generate continual value and Achieving strategic goals faster.

Ajay Shankar, Chairman and Expert Committee Constituted by DIPP said that manufacturing had come to the centre-stage as it always deserved. He added that growth in the manufacturing sector is no longer an aspiration but a necessity.

Neeraj Munjal, Past Chairman CII Haryana State Council & Managing Director, Shivam Autotech Limited said that the concept of operational excellence effectively started in the manufacturing industry with verticals like Lean and Six  Sigma. Lean Six Sigma had led to more radical, innovative change other than short-term productivity. It is all about unlocking the power and potential of an organisation and encouraging innovation in an organization. He said that we should look at the business from the outside-in, from the customer's perspective and tightly integrate strategy with end to- end business processes. He said Designing end-to-end business processes to deliver on strategic goals and Sustain focus and alignment was also one of the key factors to for sustainable growth through Operational Excellence.

Presenting the Theme of the Summit, 'MAKE-ING INDIA THE GLOBAL HUB OF BEST-IN-CLASS MANUFACTURING', Naresh T Raisinghani, CEO and Executive Director, BMGI emphasized upon 'III' principle of Interface- strategy with excellence, Imo–cultural change required to integrate excellence in Organization culture and Innovate to complement excellence. Naresh said that Make In India was an opportunity to showcase how competitive manufacturing was in India, to the world. Naresh also said achieving breakthrough results using world-class process improvement methodologies is one of the essence for the industry.
