Chandigarh 17th February:- The department of Urology is organizing an International Live Operative workshop on advanced robotic and reconstructive surgery during February 19-21, 2016 at PGI, Chandigarh. The Robotic surgical program was started at our Institute in November 2014 and so far we have successfully conducted nearly 300 operations with robotic assistance.
Robot assisted Kidney transplantation for kidney failure& Robot assisted radical cystectomy with total intracorporeal urinary diversion for bladder cancerare recent developments in Robot assisted surgery. These procedures bring immense benefit to the patients in terms of speedy recovery with minimum postoperative pain and morbidity. Such advanced operations are being practiced only in handful centers of the world. We intend to demonstrate these procedures live (to be conducted by Experts in the field) during the workshop with the idea of introducing these at this Institute for the benefit of patients.
This academic activity is being conducted with the joint effort and coordination between the Departments of Urology, Renal Transplant Surgery and Nephrology at PGI Chandigarh. Besides the local faculty of PGI, Chandigarh, reputed International and National faculty will be conducting this academic event.
Apart from live demonstration of advanced surgical techniques with the help of Surgical Robot, there will be in-depth discussions/debates on advantages and limitations of these techniques vis-a-vis those of conventional & laparoscopic operations during this three day event.
The workshop will be formally inaugurated on 19th Feb 2016, in the Lecture Theater Complex at 1.00 pm. Prof Arun Grover, Vice Chancellor, Punjab University, would be the Chief Guest. Prof Y K Chawla, Director PGI would preside over the inaugural function.
