Chandigarh 22nd January:- As part of Swachh Bharat Mission, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is carrying out joint sanitation drives in various part of city daily basis. A similar drive was flagged off oday by Arun Sood, Mayor of Chandigarh at village Atawa in presence of Deputy Mayor and area councilor Hardeep Singh and officers of MC, members of residents welfare associations, safai karmcharies union and local residents also took part in the cleanliness drive.
During the drive special emphasis was given on the ongoing thematic drives viz. underpasses, flyovers, main roads, repair of existing dustbins, painting of bus stands, dhabas, small shops and petrol pumps. Special emphasis was also given for the cleanliness of public toilets and community toilets.
The Mayor Arun Sood said that during the drives in all over the city garbage has been removed from different areas including horticulture waste, garbage mixed with malba removed, accumulated garbage and malba from open and vacant spaces, cleaning of road berms, repair & cleaning of road gullies and cleaning of parks, pruning of trees, removal of shrubs etc. in open areas and special emphasis has been given to clean areas around in bins and Sehaj Safai Kendras.
Arun Sood further said that during these cleanliness drives, workers and manpower from different wings of MC such as Medical officer of Health, Roads Wing, Horticulture Wing and Public Health wing have participated.
