PGI Celebrates World Lymphoma Awareness Day

Chandigarh 16th September:-  Department of Internal Medicine, Clinical Hematology and BMT division at PGI celebrated World Lymphoma Awareness Day. On this occasion, a meeting was organised to spread awareness about lymphoma and various lectures were delivered on this topic. Experts explained about the causes, presentation and treatment of lymphoma, role of diet and exercise during chemotherapy, and coping mechanism during cancer treatment.

This educational event was very well received by more than 200 participants from Chandigarh and neighboring states. Organising secretory of this meeting Dr Gaurav Prakash mentioned that lymphoma is a unique type of cancer which arises from lymph glands present in our body. This disease can be completely cured with help of timely diagnosis and treatment by experts.  Any person with painless, unexplained swelling, significant weight loss or long standing fever should contact a doctor without delay because these symptoms can be of lymphoma. Symptoms of TB closely mimic symptoms of lymphoma, therefore, if a patient doesn't improve within 3-4 weeks of starting treatment for TB then also, one should contact a doctor to rule out lymphoma. During the meeting Prof S.Varma, Prof  P. Malhotra, Prof Ashim Das, Prof S. Ghoshal and Dr Rajender answered all the queries of patients about lymphoma.
