Nationwide Strike:Electricity Employees Observe Complete Strike

Chandigarh 02nd September:- On the call given by 10 national trade unions including electricity employees federation of India, the electricity employees of Chandigarh under the banner of U.T. Powermen Union Chandigarh observe complete strike today. The employees in the morning assembled before their offices and raised slogan against the Govt. and reach the venue of rally of electricity employees before electricity office sector 17, Chandigarh and held a massive rally there. After the rally the employees further proceed march towards the bridge market to join a massive historic rally organized by employees forum Chandigarh consisting above 56 trade unions of U.T. Punjab & Central Organizations. General Secretary of the Union Gopal Dutt Joshi claimed that the strike was complete, no official and field works have been done by the employees. Neither any complaints and breakdown have been attended nor have any repair works been done during the strike. The Administration posted officers and employees of other departments in grid sub stations and main complaint centres to receive the complaints during the strike and other alternative arrangement were made to remove the faults.

The rally of strike employees held before the electricity office sector 17, Chandigarh was addressed by Gopal Datt Joshi General Secretary, Ram Sarup President, Vijay Singh Dhian Singh, Amrik Singh, Desh Raj, Swaroop Singh, Pradeep Sharma, Sat Pal, Raj Pal, Darshan Singh,  Kashmir Singh, Paramjit Singh, Surinder Goyal while addressing the Rally the leaders pointed out that this strike is being observe for *Urgent measures through universalization of public distribution system and banning speculative trade in commodity market for containing price-rise. *Contain unemployment through concrete measures for employment generation; *Strict enforcement of all basic labour laws without any exception or exemption and stringent punitive measure for violation for labour laws; *Universal social security cover for all workers; *Minimum wages of not less than 15,000/- per month with provisions of indexation; *Assured enhanced pension not less than Rs. 3000/- P.M. for the entire working population. *Stoppage of disinvestment in Central/State PSUs; *Stoppage of contractorization in permanent perennial work and payment of same wage and benefits for contract workers as regular workers for same and similar work; *Removal of all ceilings on payment and eligibility of bonus, provident fund; increase the quantum of gratuity; *Compulsory registration of trade unions within a period of 45 days from the date of submitting applications; and immediate ratification of ILO Conventions C 87 and C 98; * Stoppage of Labour Law amendments; * Stoppage of FDI in Railways, Insurance, and Defence. * Scrap National Insurance Scheme; Extend Pension to all; * Fill up all vacant posts. Regularize all casual/contract appointments. * Scrap Electricity Amendment Bill 2014.

The leaders while congregating the employees of electricity department for observing complete strike, strongly criticized the policies of the Union Govt. and demanding immediate scrap of electricity amendment bill 2014 and further warn the U.T. Administration to stop the process of the corporatization of profit earning U.T. Electricity Department besides demanding immediate filling up of 700 vacant post in the department and warn that if the local demands of the employees will not be resolve immediately then union will again start series of agitations.
