Chandigarh 16th September:- The certificate awarding Ceremony of e-saksham training for Senior Citizens & Housewives held at Government Model Senior School, Sector -37 D here today. Mrs. Raj Bala , Principal GMSSS-37 D along with Anil K Prashar, Centre Head, SPIC awarded the certificates to the participants. e-saksham is an exclusive training program which is an initiative of Department of Information Technology to provide IT training to Senior Citizens & Housewives. e-Saksham program has been designed with a view to bridge the digital divide that is prevalent in these segments of the populace and to strengthen community-based Senior Citizens & Housewives by making them IT savvy. This training is being provided by the computer teachers employed in Government Schools and is being run in the computer labs of government schools. Special focus is on step-by-step learning backed by personalized practical sessions.
Hari Charan Thapa Retd Head Cashier, PNB, e-saksham training participant said that this training will help in making senior citizens life more comfortable by availing all online services offered by Chandigarh Administration. Now we will be able to book our road, railway & Air tickets which will ease their life. This computer training through trained and dedicated staff will add more useful years to their life.
Mrs. Krishna Devi, Retired Teacher, e-Saksham Training participant said that she is greatly indebted to the UT Administration for conducting /arranging this computer course for the senior citizens through SPIC and providing us a wonderful opportunity to learn computer.
Gulshan Lal Sethi, Retired Divisional Engineer Telecom, Chandigarh, e-Saksham Training participant said that he would like to convey his sincere thanks to UT Administration for their Marvelous effort of Computer and IT training of senior citizens through trained and dedicated staff. This will ease the life of Senior Citizens as they will be able to remain in touch with their loved ones and also enable availing various online services like payment of bills, On-line booking of Rail and air services etc.
In order to encourage senior citizens and housewives to opt for this IT training, Separate batches for housewives and senior citizens are being run in the vicinity so that the commuting distance for the participants from their residence and training venue should be minimum. Moreover these trainings are absolutely free for the participants and is conducted after school hours i.e. between 2:30 to 5 pm. Tentatively, the training span is 75 hrs and participants are given training on computer basics, MS Windows, MS-Office, Internet and e-Mail. Participants also receive training on how to use Internet Explorer, utilize various search tools and conduct searches on the Internet. Moreover, participants are taught basic features of e-mail which will enable them to make IDs of their own, read emails compose an e-mail message and send emails accordingly. During the training emphasis is also given on the use of instant messaging services like usage of Yahoo messenger, Facebook, gtalk etc this would enable sr. citizens and housewives to be in contact with their relatives and children settled in other cities and / or countries. On the basis of the feedback received from the participants program curriculum has been updated and more emphasis has been laid on the practice part and internet and emailing. In order to add value to this program usage of smart phone has also been added in the 3 round of e-saksham training where participants are taught how to use smart phones and how to use informative mobile apps. This training is being provided by the computer teachers employed in Government Schools and is being run in the computer labs of government schools. Special focus is on step-by-step learning backed by personalized practical sessions.
Registration will soon be opened for new e-saksham training batches and SPIC will start the registration process. Interested candidates can collect & submit registration forms at the nearest sampark centres and can also download the form from www.spicidia.com. Looking at the response, this training will now become a part of regular trainings conducted by SPIC and senior citizens & housewives can now walk-in at SPIC-centre of excellence and can get them registered.
