Chandigarh 23rd September:- The Blood Bank Society hosted the 11th National Federation of Blood Donor Organizations of India (FBDOI) Conference, "Blood Donors Nurture Life", in Chandigarh. It was attended by over hundred delegates representing the entire country. The conference was attended by delegates representing the entire country and was sponsored by the Blood Bank Society and Punjab Health Systems Corporation.
Mrs.Kirron Kher, M.P. Chandigarh was the Chief Guest, who inaugurated the conference by planting a Sapling in keeping with the theme of the conference. She greatly appreciated the work being done by the Blood Bank Society which has initiated voluntary blood donation in the region and has provided leadership to the movement in the country. She assured help and patronage to the cause and thanked all the delegates for the efforts they are putting in to promote this life saving cause. Mrs.Kirron Kher, addressed the gathering and also gave away awards to 6 people deeply involved in voluntary blood donation. The awardees were Dr Manmohan Kaur ( Chandigarh)Lifetime Achievement Award, 1st Saroop Krishen Award to Dr Naresh Bhatia ( Delhi) & Dr Latha Jagannathan, 5th HD Shourie Award to MLSarin ( Chandigarh) and Blood Bank Society of Chandigarh Award of Excellence were given to Mrs Vanita Sahni(Chandigarh). Mrs.Kanta Saroop Krishen Award was awarded to Mrs.Niti Sarin.
The president Dr. Debasish Gupta, said that the work being done by the Blood Bank Society was really applaudable. Other places have paid motivators but the BBS consists of all women volunteers.
The Blood Bank Society with its history of 50 years of voluntary service has worked for establishing the Safe Blood movement in India.
A large number of the visiting delegates spoke on novel methods for motivation of voluntary blood donors in their respective states. Amongst the eminent speakers were Dr.Debasish Gupta (Kerala), Amit Banerjee (Alahabad), Vinay Shetty (Mumbai), P.K.Tripathy (Bhuvaneswar), Mahesh C. Trivedi (Ahmedabad), Dr.Naresh Chandra Sahoo (Koraput), and Apurba Ghosh (West Bengal). Mrs.Daman Dugal, Mrs.Sukrita Singh and Mrs.Shubha Nehra from the Blood Bank Society Chandigarh.
