Chandigarh 21st August:- The Department of Chemistry, MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organized a UGC sponsored National Seminar on 'Spectroscopy: An immense tool in Chemistry.' Numerous prominent research scholars, Teachers and students from all over North India attended the seminar. The seminar demonstrated an interdisciplinary approach to training as an overwhelming number of students from all sciences participated in the seminar and gained an insight into Spectroscopy. The guests were all praises for the zealous participation of the students.
The keynote speaker Prof. S.S.Bari, Punjab University, Chandigarh in his address demonstrated the immense importance as the tool that Spectroscopy exercises in chemistry. Other eminent speakers were Dr. Sumana Sen Gupta, BARC, Mumbai who deliberated upon 'Laser Induced Flourescence'; Dr. Sabhyasachi Rakshit, IISER, Mohali who talked about 'Force Spectroscopy'. Dr. Arijit De, IISER, Mohali spoke on 'Watching the Dance of molecules with ultrafast laser spectroscopy' while Dr. Navneet Kaur, Punjab University, Chandigarh discussed 'Spectroscopy from chemo sensors to molecular logic gates'.
Encouraging the students to make the most of such exceptional opportunities, Ms. Neena Dhawan, Principal of MCM said that such diligent platforms are imperative to pragmatic and research- based education. She congratulated the department of Chemistry for successful actuation of this uplifting endeavour.
