Powermen Delegation Meet Finance Secretary for filling up of Vacant Post

Chandigarh 07^th May:- A delegation of U.T. Powermen Union Chandigarh met Sarbajit Singh Finance Secretary U.T. Chandigarh the delegation was led by Gopal Dutt Joshi, General Secretary, Ram Sarup President Consisting Desh Raj, Pardeep Sharma, Raj Pal & Amrik Singh delegation. The representatives submit the memorandum to the Finance Secretary regarding filling up vacant posts of various categories lying vacant in the department since long.

Giving detail about the meeting with Finance Secretary, the leaders said that the delegation pointed out that at present total number of sectioned posts are 1780 of various categories and out of these 1780 sectioned posts only 1039 posts have been filled up and about 700 posts are lying vacant in the department for which number of representations have been submitted by the Union but the concerned authorities of the department sitting tight over the issue and no efforts have been taken to fill up these vacant posts for last 3-4 years resultantly the functioning  of the department is effecting adversely and public remain worst sufferer,  as no breakdown and complaints have been attended in time on one side, on the other public money is being paid to petty  contractors and profiteers even for small piece of work in this essential services department. The number of employees has been given duel charge and there is over burden on each and every employee. The works has been increasing many folds but the staff is decreasing day by day. In the year 2001 the government of India deputes its SIU for men power study which after through study approve the 1765 posts in addition to 90 posts for separate sub division in the year 2001. It is regretted that the authentic report of SIU was not implemented in last 14 years.  

Now the Govt. of India setting up the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission and the issue of creation of posts has been put up before the JERC. The JERC approved the proposal of the department and approve 1490 posts only out of presently sectioned 1780 posts on 29^th December 2014. Even in these 4 months time no efforts have been taken to fill up these posts. The total sectioned posts since 30 years are 1780, approved by SIU in the year 2001 are (1765+ 90) 1855 posts, and now out of 1780 posts, the JERC has approved 1490 posts and there are only 1039 posts at present in the department and there is acute shortage of staff. The department work has been badly crippled, which needs immediate attention as the deptt. has remain miserably failed for filling up of vacant posts both ment for promotional & direct quota & surrendered about 7 Crore of Rupees approved by the JERC on account of employees cost.

The Finance Secretary listen the delegation sympathetically and Directed the Chief Engineering SE Electricity to peruse the issue of filling up vacant posts promptly so that public works may not be effected.
