Shemrock School Organise Mock Parliament

Mohali 12^th December:- Shemrock School, Mohali organized a mock parliament for the students of classes 9 and 10 in the school campus. As many as 100 students participated in it. It is an exercise meant to create awareness among them about the functioning of the top legislative body in the country.The students actively participated and showed great enthusiasm regarding the working of the Parliament.   They enacted the role of the ruling as well as opposition party MPs besides Ministers and the Speaker. The ministers were also appointed by each class with special voting procedures in their respective classes. Among the representatives, only the prime minister was elected by the entire school, who is also the school leader. Starting from oath taking ceremony by the speaker, the session was presented in an effective manner by the students. Different issues concerning society were put on debate by the students. 

 The mock parliament session was divided into two parts. The first one took the question hour. In this session members raised various questions on burning issues like Promotion of hindi, issues of CSAT, issues related with MNREGA scheme ,regulation of media under Information Broadcasting ministry were discussed. Foreign delegation was also welcomed, Discrimination faced by girl child, child marriage problem, problem of north east indian students killed in metropolitan cities, Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits,issue of Saving Ganga issues related with railway ministry like hike in fares, problem faced by passengers in railway were also highlighted.In the second phase issue of black money were discussed under calling attention motion followed by breach of privilege. It was concluded by passing of National Judicial Appointments Bill.

While speaking on this occasion Principal Air Commeder (Rtd.) S.K.Sharma said that    Parliament is one of the major pillars of our democratic system. The students as future leaders and citizens must be made aware of the working of the parliament to initiate, develop, cultivate and nurture the ideals of our democratic institutions.
