Chandigarh 30th December:- Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA) demanded the immediate release of funds meant for scholarships of students of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other backward classes from the Punjab Government as more than 400 Unaided Technical Institutions of Punjab and students are facing hardship due to delay in the release of funds.
President, PUTIA, Dr J S Dhaliwal while raising this issue said that hundreds of well established technical institutions of Punjab are facing financial crisis and are on the verge of closure due to the delay in release of scholarship funds. A large number of students from India are studying in these unaided technical institutions.
Vice President, PUTIA and Chairman, Doaba Group of Colleges, S. Manjit Singh said that on the one hand state Government is not releasing SC/ST/OBC funds on the other hand banks are strict with the educational institutions in terms of repayment of the loans given to the colleges. Many of the colleges have failed to repay the loan to the banks because of non reimbursement of tuition fees of SC/ST/OBC students.
Convener, PUTIA and Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges, Dr. Anshu Kataria said that they are not denying admission to SC/ST/OBC students. But at the same time we need funds to run our institutions." District administration asks not to charge anything from SC/ST/OBC but Punjab does not release the payment on time due to which institutions are facing financial crisis.
