Mohali 24th June:-- Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Bibi Paramjit Kaur Landran today directed the officers of the Social Security and Women & Child Department to develop a comprehensive plan to organize awareness seminars in villages to sensitize the people about Domestic Violence Protection Act, 2005. Bibi Landran directed the official of SAS Nagar district for strictly implementation of the Act, so that victim of domestic violence could be protected and their rights could be shielded.
Presiding over the meeting of officers of district Social Security and Women & Child Department, SAS Nagar to implement act in the district in its true spirit, Bibi Landran said that the Punjab Government as well as Women Commission is committed for the welfare of the women of the state. She futher said that women are not aware about the Act, thus they are being victimized. Bibi Landran informed that to strictly implement the Act in the state and to aware the people about their rights, the Punjab State Women Commission has initiated the serious of meetings in every district. She instructed officers to launch special campaign with the help of Panchayats to further disseminate the Act among the people easily. She also sought help from NGOs.
She further said that SAS Nagar would be taken as model district, under which victim women and child of domestic violence, would be provided all kind of help as well as security. She said that all the Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) of every Block in the state have been designated as Protection Officers, in whose office any victim could register his or her complaint. Besides this, any victim could directly approach the concerned Magistrate and Police station with plaint. Moreover, Voluntary Organizations, working in the field of women protection, have also been assigned as Service Providers and complaint could be lodged at respective office of the organization too.She informed that the in collaboration with National Commission for Women, the Punjab State Women Commission would soon organize state level seminar on Domestic Violence Protection Act, 2005.
