Chandigarh 04th January: ---- A Dance Workshop 'Carousel' in globally popular dance forms has started at The Engine Room in Sec 8, Chandigarh. This workshop has started and will be on till Jan 5 under tutelage and guidance of experts who have been trained internationally. Some dance styles in which tricity's dance enthusiasts did not have much exposure earlier and are being covered are – Popping, the original Funk Style Street Dance that came from California during the 1960s-1970 & B-Boying, also sometimes called break-dancing, a style of street dance that originated among Black and Puerto Rican youth in New York City during the early 1970s.
While talking to the media Abhi Kathuria, Head Choreographer, said that the Engine Room, had got top trainers from Delhi in the dance forms of Popping, Contemporary, B-Boying, Salsa & Bachata. It's for the first time that dance instructors who have been trained internationally, will be conducting five popular dance forms over two days in Chandigarh. Abhi Kathuria added that we at The Engine Room, keep organizing workshops with experts so that people of the tri-city remain exposed to all important dance forms of the World and get trained from the best.
The instructors who have been roped in by The Engine Room have enviable profiles. Popping is being taught by Rakshit Vij, an expert who has trained under MJ 5 -- the group that won India's Dancing Superstar on Star Plus and has also attended a 1 week workshop by Philip Chbeeb, a popular dance instructor who has been part of AXN's dance show – 'So you think you can dance'. Contemporary dance classes are being taken by a young girl - boy duo from Delhi—Ms. Abhinaya and Kalai who have trained at the Broadway Dance Academy, New York. The instructor for B Boying is B Boy Sagar who is also a member of the OT (Overloaded Troupe) and has trained under the likes of B Boy Roxrite (USA), B Boy Pelezinho (Brazil), B Boy Cico (Italy) and B Boy Neguin (Brazil). Salsa & Bachata is being conducted by Arsh Singh. Arsh is an Engineer with the Merchant Navy who has trained in the dance forms from Log Angeles. Ballet training is also being given in the workshop by Akshay Sharma.
