Chandigarh 13th January: --The Department of Information Technology has created a "State Resident Data Hub" (SRDH) by utilizing the data collected by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for issuing Aadhaar to residents of Chandigarh. SRDH has been hosted by Department of IT on the servers provided by NIC, Chandigarh Unit at its Network and Data Centre.
Ms. Prerna Puri, IAS, Secretary Information Technology, stated that the enrolment of Chandigarh residents has crossed 97 per cent of the total population in Chandigarh and 86% residents have got their Aadhaar number. She further said the data in the SRDH can be used to identify beneficiaries for various government schemes like social security pension schemes, slum rehabilitation schemes, scholarship schemes and public distribution system. SRDH is a repository of UIDAI data of residents, along with their demographic data and photograph. The biometric details like Iris and Fingerprints are not stored at the State level, and are available with the UIDAI CIDR only. This helps the State Government in maintaining a lean database, and ensures privacy of data. She further added that Chandigarh Administration has already notified Aadhaar as valid Proof of Address and Proof of Identity for various welfare schemes being run by departments, boards, corporations, public undertakings and agencies under the aegis of the Chandigarh Administration. Chandigarh Administration has also facilitated the Aadhaar enrolment at its Sampark centres. In addition to enrolment facility of Aadhaar, status checking & e-Aadhaar printing through these Sampark Centres across city has been provided to the residents.
Ms. Keshni Anand Arora, IAS, Deputy Director General, UIDAI-Regional Office (Chandigarh) appreciated the efforts made by the Chandigarh Administration for high enrolment and setting up of the SRDH.
