PGI, Dermatologist Gets 1st Prize For Her Study At The International Dermatopathology Conference

Chandigarh 25th November:--- Dr Geeti Khullar, Senior Resident in the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology PGI, Chandigarh was awarded first prize for her study on 'Spectrum of predisposing factors in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC): a tertiary center experience', at the International Dermatopathology Conference – 2013 held in Jaipur from 15th- 17th November.

This study was conducted under the guidance of Dr Uma Nahar Saikia and Dr Bishan Dass Radotra from the Department of Histopathology and Dr Sanjeev Handa and Dr Dipankar De from the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology, PGI, Chandigarh. Squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer, is quite common in white population in the West. Her study suggests that this entity is uncommon in this part of the world. Several common skin diseases and post-burn scars may predispose to development of this type of skin cancers. Awareness in part of the patients and their caregivers is of utmost importance for its early diagnosis and prompt management.
