Max Hospital,Launches Diabetic Clinic:Week Long Free Diabetes Check-Up Camp Starts Tomorrow

Mohali, 08th September:-- With an objective to spread awareness about disease, its prevention, treatment and associated ailments Max Super Speciality Hospital has launched a Diabetes clinic here today.

According to the spokesperson of the Hospital, The hospital is also holding a week long free Diabetes check up camp from Monday between 10am-6pm. The residents of tri-city can avail free consultation from Dr. Emmy Grewal, Endocrinologist and Dr Shivani Gulati, Dietician for their diabetes related concerns. The camp will also provide free ECG and Blood Sugar Tests.

Talking about clinic, Dr Emmy Grewal said that Diabetes as a problem was not only affected the blood sugar level in the body but has an equally devastating impact on the eyes, heart, feet and kidneys. Diabetes has various end stage complications like Retinopathy (blindness), Nephropathy (kidney failure), Neuropathy, gangrene of feet, stroke, paralysis, heart attack, etc. This further led to poor quality of life.  Therefore, to address the growing epidemic of Diabetes, there was a need for a comprehensive Diabetes care centre. Max Diabetes Clinic would provide focused and comprehensive care for Pre-diabetes, management of Diabetes and associated complications under one roof, she maintained.

She further informed that in clinic, we would provide comprehensive diabetic management, with an emphasis on patient education and avoidance of complications. The Diabetes team would have an endocrinologist, a dietician and a diabetic educator. The personalized nutrition therapy for each patient would be provided. Each patient would be evaluated for neuropathy, so as to prevent diabetic foot, she said.

Speaking on the increasing local incidence of Diabetes, Dr Grewal said that increase in prevalence of diabetes in UT was mainly due to factors such as unhealthy food habits, obesity due to lack of exercise and physical fitness, sedentary lifestyles, better availability of diagnostic facilities, Environmental degradation and its impact on the endocrine system . The today's teenagers usually relished on burgers and pizzas. They disliked exercising and were addicted to playing games on computers and hooked to play stations. These were all impacts of affluence, which have come in with swanky cars and fast food culture. In various studies, the number of adolescents prone to diabetes was pegged at five to eight per cent, who were mostly in the age group of 12 to 19 years."

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ashutosh Sood, General Manager, Operations, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali said that the clinic was an integrated centre which would not only offers complete diabetic care under one roof, but also play a significant role in empowering patients with adequate knowledge regarding Diabetes and the related ailments.
