Chandigarh, 01st July: -- Haryana Government is spending a sum of Rs 3216.28 crore for the welfare of members belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes through various schemes and programmes during the financial year 2013-14 in the state.
While giving this information here today in Chandigarh, an official spokesman said that over 1.48 lakh families have been provided financial assistance of more than Rs. 230.2 crore upto last financial year under 'Indira Gandhi Priyadarshni Vivah Shagun Yojana' launched in the year 2005. Under the scheme, the Government is giving Rs. 31,000 and Rs. 11,000 to the members belonging to Scheduled Castes and widows of all sections of the society living below the poverty line respectively to solemnize the marriage of their daughters.
He said that the State government was fully committed to implement welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes and had taken a series of effective steps to provide social security to them. He said that as many as 3.85 lakh plots of 100-100 square yards each have been allotted free of cost under Mahatma Gandhi Gramin Basti Yojna for providing shelter to the people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Backward Class category 'A' and people of all communities living below the poverty line. Registry of the plot is being made in the name of the woman member of the family. A target has been fixed to provide plots to about six lakh families in the state, he added. Under the scheme, he said, these plots are being developed and all basic amenities are being provided. A sum of Rs. 109.43 crore has so far been incurred for the development of these plots.
He said that Haryana is one of the leading states in the country in providing highest rate of monthly scholarship to poor students. The Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda has recently announced to increase the amount of scholarship being given to students of Scheduled Castes under monthly stipend scholarship scheme. More than 19.72 lakh needy students are getting scholarships ranging from Rs.75 to Rs.600 per month. Out of this, more than 12 lakh students belong to Scheduled Castes.
He said that the State government had fixed a target to provide potable water connections to all Scheduled Castes families in the state under ambitious scheme called "Indira Gandhi Water Supply Scheme". Out of total of more than 10.35 lakh families, over 9.99lakh families have been given water connection in the state and 97 per cent of the target has been achieved.
Under the scheme Haryana Government bears all the expenses for providing connection, a 200-litre water tank, tap and pipes required from the mainline to the concerned house of the beneficiary.
