The last two highest discharges were over 7.44 lakh cusecs in 2010 and 7.09 lakh cusecs in 1978. Also, such a heavy discharge has never been observed in the month of June.

While stating this here today, a spokesman of Haryana Irrigation Department said that as far as districts of Karnal and Panipat are concerned, there was a breach in Dhanaura Bund near village Makhala Makhali. The inhabitants of village Chougama made a deliberate cut to get relief from flood water at site. There is no loss to the abadi area and water has spread in about 2500 acres of land. It is fortunate that the Kharif crop was not sown till now and only if sown, it must be less than five per cent. The site was inspected by Chief Engineer on June 18 and he observed that the water stagnated in the fields was less than one feet in depth. The breach site is being strengthened and shall be completed within three days.

While referring to the breach in Kunjpura embankment near village Kunda Kalan, he said that the bund was very safe and strengthened but due to rat holes, the water started leaking and the bund subsidised despite best efforts put by the field staff with labour and machinery already working at site. The flood water spread in the nearby fields but did not cause any damage to the abadi area with some exceptions of deras near bund. The floodwater has receded at the site and bund is being strengthened and would be completed within three days.

Two breaches occurred in river embankment near village Sadarpur as the level of the water was four feet higher than the ever last recorded high level flood due to unprecedented flood. The water has now receded both the breaches shall be controlled within five days.

Two breaches also occurred in river embankment near village Mundigarhi as the water was four feet high than the recorded high flood level. The water has receded and breaches would be filled within five days due to constraints in approaches. While referring to breaches in river embankment near village Pathargarh, he said that three breaches had occurred in the bund due to ghurloos which could not be controlled despite the best efforts put by the field staff already working at site. The water has receded and started moving towards the river. It will be drained out by gravity within 48 hours. The work to close the breach is in progress and would be completed in five days. Similarly, one breach occurred in river embankment near village Goela and work is in progress to plug it within three days.

While referring to the situation in district Sonipat, he said that in village Hatwala, a breach occurred due to seepage of water through the rat holes and that could not be controlled. There is no damage in the abadi of the village or to any crop. Three breaches also occurred in the drain No.2 due to backflow of river Yamuna and heavy rainfall in the catchment of drain No.2. These breaches occurred near village Sangoli and village Taharpur. There was also a breach in river Yamuna bund in village Khojkipur, but the same was controlled immediately and there is no loss to the crops.

He said that in district Faridabad, the discharge to the tune of 75,000 cusecs was running near village Basantpur on June 18 and was rising. It increased to 2.50 lakh cusecs on June 19 by 3 a.m. which is also increasing. Effective measures have been taken to
