Chandigarh,12th June:--Educational institute Gurukul Vidyapeeth has launched Marine Engineering, the first ever North Indian institute to offer this course that changes the way of life of a student.
Announcing launch of this new course here today, Executive Direrctor of the institute Deshraj Thakrasl aid that the AICET has approved B Tech in Marine Engineering. "The physical fitness standards in this course have to be at par with that of NDA norms, which makes it even more preferable for students for whom physical fitness is a way of life," he said.
He further said that need is felt to introduce this specialized branch in engineering to cater to growing demand of specialized skills in India as well as in abroad. "Marine engineers are in great demand, but shorter short supply. Gurukul Vidyapeeth intends to fill this gap by providing specialized engineers of marine engineering in future. Our aim is to serve the nation by providing specialized technocrats and enabling students to explore newer vistas of opportunities," he said. To begin with Gurukul Vidyapeeth is offering sixty seats and there would be a management quota too. Gurukul Vidyapeeth will charge Rs. 45000 per semester per student as fee for teaching the course.
Director-cum-principal Dr S C Jain added that marine engineering was a very high paying engineering job. Monthly salary of a chief engineer is above Rs 5 lacs, of second engineer is Rs 4 to 5 lacs, of the third engineer is Rs 2.75 to 3.5 lacs, of the fourth engineer is Rs 1.5 to 2.25 lacs and that of fifth engineer or engineering cadet is Rs 35000 to 75000. The Shipping Corporation of India offers monthly stipend of Rs 25000 to fresh marine engineers. Experienced marine engineer's salary ranges between Rs. 509315 to Rs 3667471 per annum. The median salary is Rs. 14 lac per annum
