85 CANCER VICTIMS GET RS. 1.27 CRORE AID FROM CHIEF MINISTER CANCER RELIEF FUND IN SAS NAGAR

SAS Nagar, June 13th : The Punjab Government has provided Rs. 1 crore 27 lac 50 thousand as financial aid from Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund to 85 cancer victims in SAS Nagar and 30 more such victims would soon receive Rs. 45 lac for their treatment. Disclosing this here today, Mr. Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu, Deputy Commissioner, SAS Nagar said that the State government has been providing Rs. 1.5 lac financial aid to each cancer victim in the state from the Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund to get quality treatment from the hospital of their choice.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that till now 115 applications had been received in the district for financial aid under Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund and 85 applicants have already been provided this aid and remaining 30 cases were under process. He said that the district administration was committed to provide this aid at the earliest to ensure the timely and quality treatment for the cancer victims thereby saving the precious human lives. It may be mentioned here that earlier this grant was directly sent to the concerned hospital from where the patient was getting treatment but now it was being given directly to the patient to get treatment from the hospital of his choice.

Mr. Sidhu revealed that a special school health program was launched for all the government and recognized non-government schools of the district. He said under this program besides general medical checkup, eyes and teethes of all the students were also being examined to identify any disease at the earliest. He said that if any such school student was found suffering from cancer or any heart disease, he would be provided free medical treatment at PGI, Chandigarh. He said that during last month, 7352 students of 93 schools were medically examined and three students were found suffering from heart diseases and one from thalassemia. They were being provided treatment at PGI, Chandigarh.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that to provide quality health services to people living in far flung areas, brick kilns and slum areas, a mobile medical van has also been started. This mobile van team includes a doctor and para medical staff.This van has covered 18 villages, four brick kilns and two slum areas and provided free medical treatment to 1124 patients. 20 ECGs and 30 x-rays were also conducted. The purpose of this scheme was to provide quality health facilities in every nook and corner in the district.
