Chandigarh 02nd March:- To facilitate the cancer patients for their treatment in reputed hospitals, financial aid from Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund worth Rs. 6 Crore 39 lacs provided to 426 cancer patients in the district. Stating this Deputy Commissioner D. S. Mangat said that out of 434 applications received from Cancer patients, the financial help to 426 patients have been provided and for remaining 8 cases financial assistance worth Rs. 12 lacs will be provided with in week.
D.S. Mangat said that Govt. of Punjab is taking concrete steps to eradicate the dreadful ailment. On the other hand government is also generating awareness towards this disease. He said that the motive of Punjab Govt. for providing financial help to Cancer patients is to facilitate them to get better treatment facilities. He said that efforts are being done to provide better facilities and to generate health awareness, so that they could live healthy lives. He said that under School Health Plan medical check up of students is being conducted through Health Department. As such, covering to 498 schools in the district, health check-up of approximate 49 thousand 626 students stands conducted and during this free specs has been provided to students and free dental diagnose was done for students. He said that, under National Rural Health Mission, free check-up and diagnoses through PGI Chandigarh, is being done for the school children of Govt. and affiliated schools who are suffering from cancer, CHD, RHD.
D.S. Mangat said that under Janani Suraksha Yojana, Financial assistance to poor families is also provided after delivery. Under this, financial assistance worth Rs. 700 is being provided to the eligible for institutional delivery in rural area and Rs. 500 for urban areas. He said that financial assistance in villages is being provided through Village Health Sanitation Committees. He said that under National Health Insurance Plan, 2828 cards have been provided to 8052 families which are below poverty line. As such, through these cards financial assistance to accommodate health facilities is being provided. During the current financial year Rs. 5 lacs 28 thousand 575 stands provided to 124 families under this plan.
Deputy Commissioner said that, to facilitate the distant villages, a Mobile Medical Unit have been started by health department. This Mobile Medical Unit provides basic health facilities at distant slum areas, The Mobile Medical Unit also conducts free medical check-up including ECG, X-Ray & other basic lab test.
