Chandigarh 19th March:- Max Super Specialty Hospital (MSSH), Mohali organized a continuing education program (CME) on 'Robotic knee replacements–the future of orthopedic surgeries in India' at Rajindra Medical College & Hospital, Patiala today. Experts from MSSH spoke about total knee and hip arthroplasty which was being become an innovative surgical treatment option for patients who suffered from non-inflammatory or inflammatory degenerative joint diseases. As many as 150 doctors from the region attended the seminar.
Speaking during occasion, Dr. Manuj Wadhwa, Director & Head, Max Elite Institute of Orthopedics & Joint Replacement at MSSH, Mohali said that now with robotic arm, there was no need to replace the entire knee. The amazing precision of RAIOS and innovative enabling designs of multi compartmental knee system together would focus purely on restoring the natural knee which was freed from the confines of conventional instrumentation. He added that the next evolution of knee replacement was here. It delivered beautiful results to a vast and growing patient population suffering with osteoarthritis of the knee. The system has tactile technology with 3-D visualization for controlled resurfacing within the pre-defined planned resection volume. Achieving optimal cup placement could be one of the most challenging aspects of total hip arthroplasty (THA) and mal-positioned cups could lead to occurrence of many significant complications.
While talking about accurate leg length restoration while using Robotic arm, Dr. Manuj Wadhwa said that leg length discrepancy was one of the most common reasons for dissatisfaction amongst patients following THA. However THA would provide improved leg length precision.
