Chandigarh 25th November:-PGIMER has been judged as the second best institute for medical education in India amongst fifteen best Institutes. As a hospital PGIMER has been graded the second best amongst the top fifteen multi-speciality hospitals in India and also having second best research facilities amongst the ten best multispeciality hospitals in India byThe Week-NIELSEN BEST HOSPITALS SURVEY 2014 published in The Week. Parameters for selecting multispeciality hospitals – competency of doctors, patient care, availability of multispeciality, reputation, infrastructure, innovation and environment The cover story of the latest issue (November 30, 2014) of the weekly magazine THE WEEK is about the 'INDIA'S BEST HOSPITALS'. The specialities of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics and Pulmonology in PGIMER have been rated as second best where as those of Diabetes and Gastroenterology as third best. Cardiology and Neurology have been rated as fourth. It has also been rated first amongst five best multi-speciality hospitals in Chandigarh. Other hospitals are : Fortis Hospital (second), Max Hospital (third), Government Medical College & Hospital (fourth) and Ivy Group of Hospitals (fifth).
The Week-Nielsen Best Hospitals Survey 2014 was conducted among specialists and general practitioners in 15 cities from September to October. Interviews were conducted among 1,347 doctors. Only experts with at least five years of practice were consulted. Citywise sample size-Ahmedabad (94), Bengaluru (90), Bhopal (92), Chandigarh (95), Chennai (90), Coimbatore (86), Delhi NCR (100), Hyderabad (97), Jaipur (93), Kochi (91), Kolkata (96), Lucknow (84), Mumbai (80), Pune (58) and Thiruvananthapuram (101). As many as 303 general practitioners were consulted. Specialities-orthopaedics (113), cardiology (110), gynaecology (113), diabetes care (102), paediatrics (115), ophthalmology (102), neurology (110), gastroenterology (99), oncology (82), pulmonary/respiratory diseases (88) and others (10).
