Chandigarh Police week Culminates:IG Inagurates ATM of HDFC Bank and Wet Canteen at IRB Complex

Chandigarh 30th November: - Chandigarh Police celebrated the 6th Police week from 23.11.2015 to 30.11.2015. As part of the Police week, today ATM of HDFC Bank and Wet Canteen at IRB Complex, Sarangpur have been inaugurated by Rajender P Upadhyay, Inspector General of Police, U.T., Chandigarh in the presence of  Amarjeet Singh Cheema, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sukhchain Singh Gill, SSP-UT, Maneesh Chaudhry, SSP-Security & Traffic, Ram Nivas Meena, Commandant-IRB, Ms. Anjitha Chepyala, DSP-IRB. SP-Communication, all ASPs & DSPs took part in this event.  It culminated with an official lunch for the officers and media persons. The sports persons of IRB were also congratulated by IGP.

 

Zee TV Extends its Week Day Programming

Administration Earmark Rally Ground for Rallies & Dharnas

Chandigarh 30th November: - The Chandigarh Administration has earmarked the Rally Ground, Sector-25, Chandigarh for organizing rallies and dharnas. No permission will be granted by the Chandigarh Administration to organize rallies and dharnas etc. elsewhere in the city other than the designated location at Rally Ground, Sector-25, Chandigarh. Moreover, the prohibitory orders u/s 144 Cr.P.C. is already imposed in U.T. Chandigarh, which is effective from zero hours on October 25th, 2015 to 23rd of October, 2015.

This has been done to avoid traffic congestion and keeping in view the convenience of general public. Permission for organizing rallies and dharnas even at Rally Ground, Sector-25, Chandigarh, must be obtained by the organizer from the competent authority i.e. the District Magistrate and concerned Sub Divisional Magistrate, U.T. Chandigarh. Further, organizing of rallies and dharnas at any location other than the earmarked site at Rally Ground, Sector-25, Chandigarh would be viewed seriously and stern action will be taken against the violators in accordance with law.

 

MCM College organizes Havan Ceremony

Chandigarh 30th November: - MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organized a Havan Ceremony to seek the blessing of Almighty before the commencement of Semester and House examination in December. Bhajans and Hymns allured in the positive energy as students from all classes joined their hands in prayer to ask for grace. The Havan was then followed by an oath taking ceremony of the 37 Discipline Incharges inducted for maintaining better decorum in the MCM Hostel. The Incharges pledged to endeavor for a congenial and participatory environment in the hostel management to ensure a satisfactory and orderly atmosphere in all the blocks. Appointment of students as Hostel Discipline Incharges by the authorities is a step to inculcate in the students the virtue of administration and self- constraint by increased participation in decision making.

The Principal of the college, Dr. Nisha Bhargava, was all praises for the endeavour of the students. She motivated them to study hard for the upcoming exams and commended their spirit of selfless service.

Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll

Chandigarh 30th November: -   The Election Commission of India ordered a Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll w.r.t. January 01st, 2016 as the qualifying date in which the claims and objections have to be received till November 30th,2015. The Election Department U.T. Chd organized the Special Campaign dates on November 28th & 29th of November. 

On the special campaign date on 29th of November the Electoral Roll Observer Ms. Kavita Singh, IAS appointed by the Election Commission of India with Naib Tehsildar(Election) visited and inspected the polling stations of Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency and found all the BLO's were present at their designated polling stations locations and they are receiving the claims and  objections from the public. 

All the left out residents who attains the age of 18 years as on January 01st, 2016 are requested to submit their claims and objections by November 30th,2015at the Sampark centre or in the office of the concerned A.E.R.Os.

 

HSRP of Series ”CH03-V” and ”CH03-W” Starts

Chandigarh 30th November :-   The Registering & Licensing Authority, UT, Chandigarh has started process for affixing of High Security Registration Plates on vehicles already registered in UT, Chandigarh at three notified locations i.e. the offices of R&LA, Sector-17, SDM(S), Sector-42, SDM (E), Indl. Area, Phase-I, Chandigarh. The owners of the vehicle having registration number of"CH03-V" and "CH03-W" series shall apply for affixation of HSRP at their respective offices with the request on plain paper mentioning the detail of Chassis Number, Engine Number, Make, Model, copy of Registration Certificate of the vehicle, copy of valid insurance and copy of Identity Card of the owner within one month from the date of 01.12.2015. The original Registration Certificate (RC) is mandatory at the time of applying for the same. In case, if, the owners of the vehicle of above series do not affixed HSRP plates within the stipulated period on their vehicles, the Traffic Police, UT, Chandigarh will be asked to initiate the process for Challaning of their vehicle.

‘Connect Net Champs’ Inching Towards City Finale Stage

Children at Delhi Public School were educated on the advantages of the internet and what children could do offline and online. CRB School Holds Healthy Tiffin Competition

The parents of the young students had put great efforts to organize a special healthy food platter. The Tiffin's were vibrant with variety of food items. The children also ate their Tiffin's lovingly. The teacher's motivated children to eat healthy food for a healthy childhood and growth. Healthy Tiffin competition was also organized on this occasion and students were encouraged to say 'No' to junk food

School Principal Sangeeta Mittal said that to make little ones aware about healthy food and to encourage them to say 'No' to junk food and also inculcate healthy eating habits in young children healthy Tiffin competition was organized.

TCAS Holds Qualifying Rounds of 7th Hero O&A Autocross Motocross and off Road Challenge

Chandigarh 29th November:- The qualifying rounds of 7th Hero Racing O&A Autocross Motocross and off Road Challenge began on saturday at GMADA ground, opposite PUDA office, Phase 8 Mohali amidst the crowd of enthusiastic spectators. Adventure lovers and seasoned riders displayed their best motoring skills which heated up the ambience.  

As many as 12 qualifying rounds were held in the autocross category where participants from all across the country took part. In autocross category which is open to any stock or modified car of any make, best performers were Vishal Bedh, Nitish Pawar, Rajan Sidhu, Sangeet Batth, Kabir Baraich

Rahul Kumar, Nitish Pawar Irfaan Alam, Avinash Singh, Umesh Yadav Deepak Madan, Jeewanjeet Singh, Ranjit Thakur performed pretty well in the Motocross category where 10 qualifying rounds were held. This category is open to all Indian as well as Imported bikes. Around 18 Marshals remained present for the event. The results were displayed on LED toward to avoid any confusion.

Two ambulances from the safety partner of the event, Fortis Healthcare were stationed and their paramedic team along with all first aid kits was also present at the venue.  

Nikhil Jaspal, Steward of the event had given briefed the participants about the rules and regulations of the game. He also entertained the queries put up by contestants.

 

Asaya Jaswal of Hallmark School Wins Zee Q’s Kahaani Express City Finale

Chandigarh 29th November:- The second innings of Zee Q "Kahaani Express" was culminated in the city on 28th November 2015 at Gurukul Global School. The city finale saw a participation of unprecedented 160 children from Chandigarh city, where one city champ goes to the National finale in Kolkata. Asaya Jaswal from Hallmark School Chandigarh was the winners of competition and whereas the 1st Runnerup was Vivikta From Chitkara, School, Chandigarh and 2nd runner up was  Anushka Dhillon from Bhawan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh.

The city finale was judged by renowned personalities who provided their invaluable feedback and advice to the students, motivating them to improve their performance. Donning the hats of judges was Kulvinder Singh, educationist and International education and training programs specialist as well as Raspal Kaur, recognized Australian training and development professional and English language training specialist.  The winner will be competing with national finalists in the mega finale, scheduled to be held in Kolkata next month.

Ashwin Sashital, Brand Head, Zee Q, informed that we are overwhelmed with the response we have received for the second season of Kahaani Express. The talent in Chandigarh is truly exceptional and we are honorued to be providing them the platform to showcase this at a national level.

 

 

National Awards for PGI Doctors

 Dr. Tulika Gupta, Assistant Professor received National Award, Dr T. Kodandaramaiah Memorial Gold Medal on her work on the topic "A Tale of Two Commissures: Morphometry for Safe Surgical Corridors to the Third Ventricle", Dr. Khayati Sant Ram, Senior Resident, also presented a poster on the topic "Comparative Microanatomy of Suprarenal Glands of Anencephalicand Normal Fetuses of Different Gestational Age Groups" and received National Award, Dr. Manju Naresh Memorial Gold Medal. 

 

CME of Rheumatology on Current Paradigms in Arthritis Concludes

Chandigarh 29th November:- The One day  CME of Rheumatology on current paradigms in arthritis in PGI concluded successfully today with over 150 physicians participating in the meeting. This meeting saw stalwarts like Dr Anand Malaviya, Dr Ramnath Misra, Dr Amita Aggarwal and Dr Rohini Handa among others participate. The CME was inaugurated by the Director PGI and the chairperson for the CME was Dr Subhash Varma, Head, Internal Medicine PGI. The organizing secretary was Dr Varun Dhir from Internal Medicine. There were many interactive sessions, MD residents Quiz and a DM Rheumatology students Debate which were well received by the audience. The Punjab Medical Council has awarded 4 credit hours to this CME.

Amateur Judo Association Chandigarh to Hold Senior National Judo Championship Men and Women

Chandigarh 29th November:- Amateur Judo Association Chandigarh under the Banner of Judo Federation of India is holding the Senior Judo Championship for Men and Women  at Panjab University Chandigarh. Punjab University Chandigarh is Co organizer of the Championship. 

Raj Pal Chauhan, President Amateur Judo Association Chandigarh, said that the Judokas is being provided with the good boarding and lodging arrangement.  This is the third time the Association is holding the Championship in the City Beautiful. About 490 Star Judokas from all the States of India, ITBP, All India Police Sports Control Board, Railway Sports Board, SSB, CISF and BSF and about 100 officials will participate in the 4 days event. 

N.K.Thakur organizing Secretary said that more than 35 team has confirmed their participation. The championship is being played from 02nd of December to 05th December. He added that full arrangements has been made for the championship.

Arora Family Wins Max 2 Ludhiana’s Family No 1

Students of Lawrence School Excelles in Mohali Distt. Athletic Meet

Chandigarh 29th November:- Lawrence Public Senior Secondary School, Sector -51 students participated in Mohali School Distt. Athletic meet which was organized by CBSE and won   as many as 24 medals. Students from various  includes the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Jammu & Kashmir participated in the competition  .In Under - 16  boys Vishnu Bhatia, Navrohi Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Simar Singh, Sparsh Rishi won gold medals in 4X100 relay where as in under 14  boys Gursharan Singh, Mohit,  Abhinav won gold medals in 4x100 relay & Padam Pratap Singh won silver medal .Besides this Vishnu Bhatia and Simar Singh won silver medal in long jump and Discus throw respectively . Harshdeep Singh bagged bronze medal in discus throw and shot put. Jaskiran kaur & Gurvir Kaur won bronze in shot put and long jump respectively.

While encouraging the Students Principal of the School Veena Malhotra said that Fine tuning, coordination and innate talent helped them to bag a gold medals. She further added that Lawrence school always stressed on the holistic development of the children, so that, its students can mark their presence and can outshine in their interested sector.

Adviser Inagurates Cricket Tournament for Children with Intellectual Disability

Chandigarh 27th November:- The Adviser to the Administrator, Vijay Kumar Dev, inaugurated the 4th All India Cricket Tournament for Individuals with Intellectual Disability from 27th to 29th November, 2015 organized by GRIID, Sector 31, Chandigarh.

The Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh emphasized saying, Chandigarh should become the sports hub for the Persons with intellectual disability not only for the outdoor games but also indoor games

Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary, Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh Administration was the Guest of Honor on this Occasion. He highlighted that this kind of events must be encouraged and conducted regularly so that they can also proof their potential.

Oakridge International School Students Excells in Zonal and District Athletics Meet

Kashish Kumar Chabbra of class 8th won gold medal in 100meter and 400 meter Sprint and silver medal in 200 meter Sprint race in Under-14 Boys category and in Girls Under-14 category Jasmine Kaur of class 6th won silver medal in 100 meter Sprint race. In Under-17 Boys, Karanvir Singh Natt of class- 9th won Gold medal in Javelin throw and Silver Medal in High Jump. Kashish Kumar Chabbra also qualified for the State level by bagging Gold Medal in District Level Under-14 Boys Sprint race in categories  100 meter 200 meter, 400 meter and also in the relay race. Bhawana Garg, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, S B Deepak Kumar, Secretary Information Technology, Danish Ashraf, Nodal Officer Smart City Mission, Bhupesh Chaudhary, Assistant Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Directors and senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).  

The agenda of the meeting was to discuss about the: approach regarding development of Smart City Proposal, National Goals for Smart City, Chandigarh Vision & Goals, Pan-City Intelligent Government Services and Area Based Development. During the meeting a presentation was delivered highlighting various aspects, which have been added based on the evaluation and assessment as done by Deloitte and CII with the Chandigarh Administration. Feedback and suggestions were taken from the officers regarding the various components, which would be a part of the Smart City proposal. The meeting was concluded with the (HSRP) approving the Smart City vision and Sub-Goals, PAN City Solutions & Area Based Development.

While addressing the meeting, Vijay Dev, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh Administration, said that the active support of the citizens, experts and officials of the administration, backed with the huge feedback gathered through various mediums would be reflected in the Chandigarh specific solutions, which would be a part of the Smart City Proposal.

 

GMSS School 32 Celebrates its Annual Prize Distribution Function

The chief guest of the day was Director Public Instructions (S), Rubinderjit Singh Brar. Deputy General Manager, Assistant General Manager of the Bank of India and other dignitaries from the Education Department, Principals of various school graced the occasion.

The programme commenced with the unfurling of the school flag and salute to the march past troops. Students showcased their talent through their performances in various dances. Qawaali and orchestra stole the lime light. Gatka, Giddha and Bhangra show casing the flavour of Punjab were a thrilling visual treat.

The honourable chief guest gave away the prizes to the students who brought laurels to the school in various fields. In his speech the DPI Schools applauded the efforts and appreciated the cultural programme.

Chandigarh Police Week:Chandigarh Traffic Police & Vodafone Join Hands to Create Awareness on ‘Road Safety’

Chandigarh 27th November:- Looking to create awareness on 'Road Safety' amongst young school-going children, Chandigarh Traffic Police and Vodafone Punjab Circle today organised a drawing competition for students in the age group of 10 years to 16 years at Children Traffic Park, Sec 23, Chandigarh. Organised as part of the 6th Chandigarh Police Week being observed from 23rd to 30th November, 2015, students from across all schools in Chandigarh were invited to come forward and participate in the competition. The competition was held for students in two age groups, from age 10 to 13 and age 14 to 16.  Hon. Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal, the chief guest for the event, graced the occasion and encouraged the students. Also present at the event were SSP Traffic & Security Chandigarh Maneesh Chaudhry (IPS) and DSP Traffic Admn. & South- Rajeev Ambasta.

Sharing his views Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal said that it is important to understand the importance of road safety and traffic rules not only for your own benefit, but for the benefit of other commuters as well. If everyone starts following traffic rules and makes a conscious effort to make the roads safer, then it can help prevent a lot of accidents and loss of life and property. He further said that activities like today's painting competition will go a long way in ensuring that young children receive the right guidance and think in the right direction which can help make our roads much safer in the near future.

Seconding his thoughts, Pushpinder S Gujral, Business Head,Punjab, HP and J&K, Vodafone India said that today's students will become safety ambassadors of tomorrow. If we educate them, train them and make them realise the importance of adherence to traffic rules today then it will go a long way in ensuring safer roads tomorrow. Their minds are impressionable and if we can impart right knowledge and values at an early age then they will become responsible citizens. At Vodafone, we educate our employees, associates and their families on traffic rules and adherence to them is a must. For this purpose we have put policies and checks in place as well. We have come up with 8 absolute Safety Rules (ASR's) out of which 5 focus on road safety.

Post completion of competition, while the jury comprising the Hon. Home Secretary, delegates and officers from Vodafone and Chandigarh Traffic Police deliberated upon the winners, officials from Chandigarh Traffic Police spoke on the importance of road safety and shared tips on being road safe. The students were served refreshments by Vodafone volunteers who also kept them engaged through different interactive activities

Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal and senior Vodafone officials handed over the prizes to the winners. In the age group 10 to 13, Dhruvi Yadav of Carmel Convent stood first, Vedansh Vasudeva of Gurukul Global School stood second and Anand Vishwakaran of Govt. High School, Sec 32 stood third respectively. In the age group 14 to 16, Samanta of Sri Guru Harkishan School stood first, Kajal of Govt. Sr. Sec School, Mauli Jagra stood second and Ashutosh of Shivalik Public School stood third respectively. A special award was given to a special child Rehnuma Rani of Govt. High School, Mauli Colony, Chandigarh who drew with her feet.

 

 

7th Hero O&A Autocross Motocross and Off-road Challenge Takes off

Chandigarh 27th November:- The three-day 7th Hero O&A Autocross Motocross and Off-road Challenge took off today at GMADA ground, Phase 8, Mohali. Top riders and motorsport enthusiasts from various parts of the country reached to test their motoring manoeuvres. All the vehicles participating in the event including diverse makes of two-wheelers and four-wheelers were inspected. The vehicles were scrutinized as per the norms of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of India (FMSCI).

Sharing information about the event, the Clerk of the Course (COC), Gulpreet Aulakh said that we have received an overwhelming response for the all the categories. Participants will be put on a test of endurance and technique here. All the vehicles have been scrutinised today and the qualifying rounds will be organised tomorrow.

Adding to it, the steward of the event Nikhil Jaspal said that adventure lovers are all set to enjoy the triple treat ,AutoCross, MotoCross and Off-Roading here. We have taken full care of safety norms and two life-support ambulances with paramedic staff have been stationed at the spot.

A huge rush of spectators around the ground was noticed as the contestants practiced at the track to win in the competition. The finest teams who reached here included Hero Racing team, A2B team, TVS Riders, Jaipur Riders, Delhi Bikers Club, Tusker Motorsport, Capital Offroaders, 4X4 Earth Crawlers, Gerrari Offroaders Xtreme Offroaders, Ludhiana and Mudaholics Jalandhar.

 

 

PGI to Hold CME on Current Paradigms in Arthritis

Chandigarh 27th November:- Prof Yogesh Chawla, Director PGI will inaugurate the yearly update and Continuing medical education program in Rheumatology, themed ''Current paradigms in Arthritis'' on 29th November 2015 for MD residents and General practitioners and paramedical personnel involved in care of patients with common rheumatological problems. 

The Department of Internal Medicine, PGI, Chandigarh is organizing the CME.  Dr Subhash Varma, Head, Internal Medicine, PGI will preside over the function. The CME will cover common rheumatological illnesses like Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis and Gout that will be covered by Current and past Professors of Rheumatology from SGPGI, Lucknow, AIIMS New Delhi and PGI Chandigarh. Dr Varun Dhir, Associate Professor, Internal Medicine is the Organizing Secretary.

The USP of this CME is that it will be interactive and discuss case scenarios. The discussions will be of half an hour slots in between where patients from the time they enter the clinic to their examination and finally investigations and diagnosis will be discussed.  This will simulate a real patient who comes to a doctor with musculoskeletal pain.

Musculoskeletal diseases and pain has a high prevalence in the society.  Rheumatoid arthritis is the most common arthritis affecting almost one in 100 people - it is often neglected as vague pains or sometimes to the contrary over diagnosed just because a rheumatoid factor is positive. A new test called CCP is now available for this.
Ankylosing spondylitis is a common arthritis affecting the spine - it presents in young people with a backache which is more in mornings with lot of stiffness and improves with movement unlike other back aches. It can over time lead to a bent posture and reduction of neck movement.

 

 

Orations on “Pharmacogenomics: Implementation in Medicine” Given On the Second Day of 42nd National Conference of ACBI

Chandigarh 27th November:- On the second day of 42nd National Conference of Association of Clinical Biochemists of India (ACBI)scientific activity started with the plenary lecture delivered by Dr. Helen Martin, President, Australian Association of Clinical Biochemistry who highlighted the importance of albumin in health and diseases. Thereafter, Awadesh Saran & Seth G.S. Memorial orations were delivered by eminent scientists, namely Dr. Tester F. Ashavaid (P.D. Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai) on "Pharmacogenomics: Implementation in medicine" and by Dr. Harish C. Joshi (USA) on "Microtubules, small plant derived molecules and uncontrolled cancer cell division". Dr. Joshi in his presentation emphasized on his findings of use of noscapinoidsin cancer treatment. The conference is being organized by the Department of Biochemistry at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh. 

Nine sessions were held in which over fifty papers by leading international and national experts were presented. More than hundred posters were also presented by the young researchers. The topic covered were "Molecular basis of genetic disorders, metabolic syndrome, and evidence based laboratory and emergency medicine, cancer biology, laboratory accreditation etc."

More than thousand delegates from different parts of the country and abroad are participating in this three day national conference. During the three day conference three simultaneous sessions are being organized where presentations are being made by national and international experts and young scientists are presenting their work with the help of posters. Latest advances in clinical biochemistry covering important aspects of molecular basis of various disease processes as well as applications of latest techniques and quality management of laboratory are being discussed in the conference. 

During the conference Prof. Rajendra Prasad, Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry, PGI, Chandigarh, was selected as the President of the Association of Clinical Biochemists of India for the year 2016.
