PGI To Organise Foot march on World No Tobacco Day

Chandigarh 30th May:--On the Occasion of World No Tobacco Day, PGIMER, Chandigarh, is organizing a foot march on Saturday, in continuation of its efforts towards contributing a Tobacco-Free society. The march will be flagged off by Dr. A.K. Gupta, Medical Superintendent-cum-Prof & Head, Department of Hospital Administration, PGI from Reception, Nehru Hospital, PGI and after covering all the advanced centres of the Institute, will be concluded in the New OPD Block, PGI by the Director, PGIMER, Prof. Y.K. Chawla.

 

According to the spokesperson of the PGI, World No Tobacco Day is an official campaign marked by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is observed all over the world every year on May 31. It aims to encourage abstinence from all forms of tobacco and to draw attention towards the negative effects of tobacco consumption on health. The foot march, being organized by the Department of Hospital Administration, PGIMER, in co-operation with Carmel ex Students' Association (CESA), involves the participation from students of Carmel Convent School and St. John's High School Chandigarh. It will also involve members of CESA, faculty and residents of the department and employees from the Security and Sanitation departments of PGIMER.

 

The march is expected to foster awareness in the society regarding the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. It will also reinforce the implementation of Anti-tobacco efforts of the Department of Hospital Administration to make PGIMER a Smoke-Free zone and to gather social support for an effective tobacco control.
