District Legal Services Authority, Holds Camp Court in Central Jail, Patiala.

Chandigarh 18th April:-- Today a camp court was held at Central Jail,
Patiala for hearing of cases of accused who are in jail either in
petty cases or who wish to confess their guilt. This court was
presided over by Tarntaran Singh Bindra, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum
Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Mohali for accused of
cases registered against them in police stations of Mohali District.
Tarntaran Singh Bindra told that this special camp court has been held
to decrease the pendency of large number of cases where accused are in
custody for considerable period. He also sensitized jail inmates about
their legal rights and about option of plea bargain to them by which
they can earn lesser punishment by confession of guilt and by
compensating the complainant party. He told that Punjab Legal Services
Authority is committed for the uplift of down trodden society and for
the protection of its rights. People can avail legal assistance either
by contacting Front office/Legal Care and Support Centers of District
Legal Services Authority or by dialing number 1968 (toll free) from
their telephones. This telephonic assistance is available 24X7 to all
residents. He disclosed that on 21.04.2014, similar camp court will be
held at two jails at Nabha because some of the accused of cases
registered against them in police stations of Mohali District, are
also lodged there.
