Mohali 18th April:-- In view of Lok Sabha Elections to be held on 30
April, a total of 688 Polling booths have been set up in SAS Nagar,
Kharar & Dera Bassi constituencies and 2752 polling officers will
perform their duty during elections. This was stated by District
Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu
while he was addressing the polling staff of SAS Nagar constituency
during rehearsal at auditorium of Shivalik Public School at Phase 6,
Mohali.
Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that polling staff plays a vital role in
the successful completion of every election & the officers thus
deputed should perform their biased duty with transparency &
dedication. He said that polling officers should be well aware about
their rights & responsibilities so that they could not face any
problem in performing their duties. He said that administration is
also making every effort to facilitate the polling staff. Tejinder Pal
Singh Sidhu said that polling will be held on 30 April from 7.00am to
6.00pm. He said that every polling booth will be under strict
monitoring of the administration and relevant security arrangements at
each polling station will be done. Besides these administration is
keen towards ensuring every effort to facilitate the voters at polling
stations. He further said that to ensure smooth functioning of
election process micro observers, sector officers and supervisors will
also be deputed at requisite polling stations.
During the rehearsal of poling staff, Assistant Returning
Officer-cum-SDM SAS Nagar Lakhmeer Singh addressed the polling staff
and explained the election procedure & their duties in detail. He also
explained about the working & use of electronic voting machine. He
said that in SAS Nagar constituency on 221 polling booths 884 officers
will be deputed for election duty. During the rehearsal besides
polling officers, Assistant Commissioner General Dr. Shubhdeep Kaur
(Under Training) District Education Officer (Secondary) Sr. Mewa
Singh, Tehsildar Sanjeev Kumar & other officers were present.
