Chandigarh 04th February:---- An overpowering sense of jubilation gripped all during the Basant Extravaganza at MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh. Yellow assumed a special significance as all staff and students clad in the radiant colour enlivened the celebration to mark the commencement of spring season. Rajender Nath, Vice President DAVCMC, New Delhi graced the occasion as chief guest while Ravinder Talwar, Secy, DAVCMC, New Delhi and R K Sondh, Regional Manager, IRCTC were present as Guests of Honour. All the principals of various DAV institutions from across the tricity along with various other esteemed dignitaries also partook in the festivities.
The event was infused with a surfeit of enthralling activities and contests. Innovative prreparation and presentation of food was showcased in the food fete, a mega food show organized as a part of Basant Fest. The winner of Aaharika, a unique cookery contest, was Ms. Sunaina, Assistant Professor, Department of English, MCM DAV while the prize for food scapes and salad dressing went to Mehak and Manmohana respectively. Rangoli was another superlative activity of the event and the creative etching of Aashima won her the rangoli contest. Creative writing competition was also held which was won by Shabnam, Akshita and Rashmi in English, Hindi and Punjabi categories respectively. The highlight of the celebration was however the MCM Basant Beauty Utsav wherein the students traced the legacy of this popular festival and showcased the spirit of Basant Panchami. Ms Navneet was crowned the MCM Basant Princess while Ms Amanat bagged the title of MCM Basant Nikhaar. The captivating smile of Ms Aishwarya bagged her the title of MCM Basant Muskaan and the title of MCM Basant Bahaar was won by Preetika. Ms Srishti beacame the MCM Basant Shringaar and Pia Bakshi became MCM Pitambara, the beautiful girl who was appreciated by all for her grace and poise.
