WORKSHOP ON 'SPIRITUAL QUOTIENT' AT HALLMARK PUBLIC SCHOOL

By 121 News Reporter

Chandigarh 04th February:---- Hallmark Public School, Panchkula brought to the fore a very pertinent and fresh topic in the field of education – the need to develop "Spiritual Quotient" (SQ) of students for attaining long term objectives in schooling as well as building life skills. An expert on the subject, Ms. Jasmeet K Shan, conducted a workshop for inquisitive students. The workshop saw students being exposed to gentle movements which were aimed at making them calmer individuals. The students enjoyed the steps and exercises they were told to follow. The objective of these was to lower levels of anxiety, stress and nervousness --thereby making imbibing education much more effective. The activities were conducted in a fun way at the workshop and these made the young minds more aware of the need of SQ. During the workshop conducted with students it emerged that SQ is all about a holistic approach to life: self-awareness, compassion, creativity, ability to think, ability to reason out etc. Students were told that with SQ, one can distinguish more clearly the right from the wrong. What’s more, it equips them to look at and solve the problems and then begin to direct thoughts & actions towards meaningful goals.

According to Ms. Jasmeet K Shan, SQ helps in self assessment and the easiest method to achieve better levels of SQ is through some simple and expressive movements that are an intrinsic part of the 'Sufi' style. We tried to do just that at the workshop. It a known fact that individuals exposed to these techniques, are able to counter life's problems, in a pragmatic manner.

Mrs. Kavita Wadhwa, Principal, Hallmark Public School, Panchkula, said that public at large is aware of IQ, (Intelligence Quotient), Physical Quotient (PQ) and EQ (Emotional Quotient) but SQ is yet not too well known. Spiritual quotient (SQ) as a measure looks at a person's spiritual intelligence in the same way as intelligence quotient (IQ) looks at cognitive intelligence. Simply put SQ is essentially qualities of the Head, Hand and Heart or 3 'H's. So if a student’s SQ is raised, the other Qs will automatically fall in to place, thereby making learning at school an easy and enjoyable exercise. This is the reason why we organised the session for students.”

Jivtesh Garg, Director, Hallmark Public School, Panchkula, said, that the workshop was conducted for 40 students and it has always been the school’s effort to continue expanding the vision of students by including latest aspects in education. Hallmark has always been in the forefront in keeping abreast of new trends in schooling and the SQ workshop was a step in this direction.
