Chandigarh, Dec.27, 2025:- Sanjay Tandon, Governing Council Member (WPL), BCCI and Founder President of the UT Cricket Association (UTCA) met the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria at Lok Bhavan on Saturday and had the honour of presenting him the book "From Affiliation Towards Excellence – UTCA Chandigarh (2019–2025)".
The book chronicles the inspiring journey of UTCA since its affiliation, documenting the steady rise of cricket in Chandigarh over the past six years. It highlights the notable achievements of Chandigarh players across age groups, their performances at the national level and the systematic efforts made to build a strong cricketing ecosystem in the city.
The publication highlights the growth of UTCA's flagship tournaments that have strengthened Chandigarh's cricket ecosystem. The Chandigarh Premier League (CPL) has evolved into a strong domestic platform, offering valuable competitive exposure to local and emerging talent. The Gully Cricket initiative conducted across multiple seasons has taken the game to the grassroots by identifying raw talent from neighbourhoods and schools. Gully Cricket has also been recognised as a case study by the BCCI and acknowledged by the Union Sports Ministry for aligning with the 'Balla Ghumao, Nasha Bhagao' initiative. The Balramji Das Tandon Memorial Cricket Tournament continues to blend legacy with competitive cricket.
During the meeting, Tandon also apprised the Governor of a major development aimed at strengthening cricket infrastructure in the region. He informed His Excellency that in the latest Apex Council meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), held on December 22, the establishment of an Indoor Cricket Facility in Chandigarh has been approved. A BCCI team deployed by the BCCI is likely to visit the city shortly to assess and finalize the site, while further modalities related to the project will be communicated by the BCCI in due course.
The Governor appreciated UTCA's efforts in promoting cricket and nurturing young talent and acknowledged the association's contribution towards structured sports development in the UT.
