Mohali, Nov. 27, 2025:-Youth are the backbone of progress for any nation. Keeping this in mind, Gian Jyoti Institute of Management & Technology (GJIMT), Phase 2, successfully organized a comprehensive special expert session on Legal Foundations for Startups. The aim was to familiarise its students with the legal requirements of an entrepreneurial journey. This important event was held at the Gian Jyoti Campus in collaboration with the institute's Innovation Council and the Entrepreneurship Development Club.
The session provided participants with detailed information on the essential legal frameworks and compliance intricacies required to start and run a venture. Special focus was given to the following crucial and detailed topics. Business Structure Selection discussed the legal and tax implications of choosing a business structure such as Proprietorship, Partnership, or Private Limited Company. Same way Registration and Licensing for guidance was given on the necessary steps and various government approvals required to legally establish a business, keeping the attendees up-to-date with registration and licensing procedures. Intellectual Property Rights where Students were informed about how to protect their innovative ideas, brand name (Trademark), and products (Patent/Copyright).As Taxation and Financial Compliance for Explanation of understanding GST, Income Tax, and other financial reporting requirements. Labour and Employment Laws Shared information on legal requirements related to hiring employees, contracts, and workplace regulations. Contract Drafting and Requirements updated the attendees on how to create strong and legally valid agreements with suppliers, customers, and partners.
The objective of this session was to prepare students not just for innovation, but also for the legal stability of their businesses. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, who actively engaged in Q&A sessions to clarify their doubts.
On this occasion, Dr. Aneet Bedi, Director of GJIMT emphasized the importance of legal knowledge in the startup ecosystem. In her address, she stated that a strong legal foundation is the backbone of every successful startup. "Often, entrepreneurs overlook the legal aspects, which leads to major challenges later on. At Gian Jyoti, we ensure our students deeply understand the compliance landscape so they can build ventures that are not only innovative but also legally robust and sustainable," she added. Aspiring entrepreneurs also posed several important questions to the expert regarding starting new startups.
