Mohali, June 30, 2025:-Gian Jyoti Institute of Management & Technology (GJIMT), Phase 2, through its NSS and NCC units, observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on campus. The week-long series of programs aimed to raise awareness among youth about the dangers of substance abuse and to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. During the events, students actively participated by expressing powerful messages through creative posters, highlighting the mental, physical, and social impacts of drug use. A Pledge Taking Ceremony was also held, where students and faculty members took a solemn vow to stay away from drugs, prioritize mental wellness, and support others in making informed and responsible life choices. As part of this initiative, a seminar was organized on campus on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, educating attendees about the ill effects of all types of drugs. A poster-making competition was also held on the related theme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Aneet Bedi, Director of Gian Jyoti, addressed the students, stating that most addictions begin as a hobby or taste, but their consequences are often dire. She further added that today, drug addiction is hollowing out the future of the nation. She mentioned that although governments are taking this serious issue with concern and have enacted strict laws, young people sometimes fall into depression and start taking drugs, which later ruins their lives. Mr. J.S. Bedi, Chairman of Gian Jyoti Group, praised the Punjab government's campaign against drugs and sensitized students about the effects of addiction. He stated that drug addiction not only destroys the individual but also their entire family, a loss that even future generations cannot recover from. He appealed to the students not only to mobilize against all kinds of drugs but also to fulfill their responsibility towards society by sensitizing drug users in their surroundings about the ill effects.
On this occasion, the group's teachers also encouraged students to raise their voices against drugs and abstain from any form of addiction. Finally, everyone took a pledge to mobilize against drugs.
