Chandigarh, July 02, 2024:- Over the past few years, some individuals in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh have been misusing the name of the Church to spread false propaganda under the guise of Christian missionary work. These individuals have no actual connection to Christianity, according to Sukhjinder Gill, a member of the Catholic Church in Sector 19, Chandigarh. Speaking at a press conference at the Chandigarh Press Club, Gill, who is also the president of Janhit Social Service and Blood Service organizations, said these people are exploiting the gullibility of individuals by selling bottles of water and oil, claiming they can cure illnesses and predict the future, thereby promoting superstition. He stated that because of these individuals, Christianity's reputation is being tarnished, and true Christians feel ashamed and hesitate to reveal their faith. He added that attempts by Christian religious leaders and officials to explain to these people and even filing complaints with district officers have been futile.
Gill revealed that these individuals spread their deceptive practices through social media, mentally and religiously exploiting innocent people. They post videos on YouTube, Facebook, etc., claiming to exorcise ghosts and cure diseases, using the Holy Bible to spread superstitions. He told that a memorandum is submitted to the Governor and Chief Minister of Punjab, demanding appropriate action against these individuals and the banning of their social media accounts.
Present at the occasion, Baba Gurpreet Singh Ji Udasin of Udaseen Taksal International (California) stated that members of the Dalit community are availing benefits from the government's reserved quota and simultaneously converting to Christianity. He argued that if they want to convert, they should first return the benefits taken from the Dalit quota. He also urged the government to prevent such illegal religious conversions.
Senior advocate Gurmohan Preet Singh of the Punjab-Haryana High Court, who has been contacted by organizations representing Hindu, Sikh, and Christian communities for legal assistance, emphasized that these are very serious issues and such malpractices should be opposed in the name of religion. Due to certain non-social elements, Punjab's religious brotherhood and atmosphere of peace should not be completely ruined. He said that hypocrisy exists in every religion and legal action should be taken against all of them. It's not about any one religion; it's about humanity.
Also present at the event were AIG Advocate Swarn Singh Khanna and members of the Hindu Sikh Mahasabha Action Committee, Punjab, including Sukhpal Singh Sara.
