67th Annual Athletic Meet Held at Government College of Education

67th Annual Athletic Meet of Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh was inaugurated with the unfurling of the college flag by the Chief Guest, Sh. Amandeep Singh Bhatti, PCS , Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh. The Guest of Honour was Nadeem Sultan, State Coordinator (PMU) Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of lndia. The other distinguished guests present on the occasion were Nemi Chand, State Liaison Officer, NSS, Chandigarh Administration, Sanjeev Gulati, Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration, Manmohan Sngh Principal, GMHS, Sector 20 which is practising school of the college and representative of Chandigarh Police for Drug De-addiction. Deepak Mishra, Fit India Champion and President of Punjabi Runners Club along with Bonn Nutrition Pvt. Ltd collaborated as Refreshment Partners of the event.

Principal Dr (Mrs.) Sapna Nanda welcomed the guests. After hoisting the college flag, all the esteemed guests present proceeded to the ceremonial Balloon Release. The chief guest Amandeep Singh Bhatti took salute at the march past by the student participants, following which he declared the Meet Open. Oath was taken by Yashika Sharma, a student of B.Ed. who is an achiever in P.U. inter college sports Competitions. The two day athletic meet is an annual feature of the college. The victory ceremony began with the declaration of the awards for the March Past and Tug of War events.

After felicitating the winners, the programme proceeded with a Nukkad Natak performance by a team from Department of Social Welfare on the theme : Nashe Se Y aari Maut Ki Tyari. The theatrical performance was laced with comedic stylings by the talented artists. They conveyed a very important message to the students about peer pressure and role of social groups in drug use and the negative impacts of drugs in a students' life. The performance of VADA club (Victory Against Drug Abuse) of the college was also appreciated during the event.

Amandeep Singh Bhatti in his address to the students congratulated the students for their enthusiasm and emphasized on the theme of the nukkad nakat by urging the students to stay away from drugs and live a healthy life free from drugs.
