Chandigarh April 19, 2021:- As per directions of Hon'ble Justice Jaswant Singh, Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority the Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalat, U.T., Chandigarh began functioning in District Legal Service Authority, ADR Centre, District Court, Sector-43, Chandigarh.

It is noteworthy that in Chandigarh (U.T.), Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalat was constituted in the year 1998 and is functioning from the premises of State Legal Services Authority, Sector 9, Chandigarh.  The Lok Adalat was presided over by the Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority being Judge, and there were two nominated Members.

Previously in the Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalat parties appeared in person but most of the times they were assisted by their respective advocates also who generally came from Sector-43, Court Complex.  It was a normal practice that one of the parties kept on waiting for the other side/advocate. Sometimes this waiting period became long resulting in wastage of time and leading to irritation.

Keeping all these factors in mind and for smooth functioning of Lok Adalat and to avoid inconvenience to the litigant public and advocates who have to travel all the way to Sector-9, Chandigarh, Hon'ble Justice Jaswant Singh, Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority* has decided that Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalat be shifted to Sector-43, as this initiative will save the time of both the litigants and advocates who can participate in the Lok Adalat proceedings whenever they are free from regular Court work.

Henceforth the Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalat will be headed by Ashok Kr Mann, CJM cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority assisted by two nominated Members namely, V.K. Kapoor, IPS (Retd.) and Narinder Dalal, Advocate.
