Chandigarh 07th November:- Electronic Ticketing (E-Ticketing) is the way Bus Ticketing has taken a transition throughout India in the recent years with the onset of IT revolution. Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) has joined the elite club of e-Ticketing State Transport Undertakings today, when the Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, V.P. Singh Badnore launched the ETM machines by printing the first ticket. Parimal Rai, Adviser to the Administrator, K.K. Jindal, Secretary (Transport), Amit Talwar, Director (Transport) and other officials of the Administration and CTU were present during the occasion.
V.P. Singh Badnore, Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh instructed the department to explore the possibility of introduction of Electric buses in Chandigarh so as to reduce the impact of vehicular pollution. He stressed that Chandigarh shall not go Delhi way as far as pollution situation is concerned and Administration should make efforts on all fronts to keep the city pollution free. He also instructed the Transport Department to work upon the introduction of few double – Decker buses on bigger roads so as to build the image of Public transport in the city.
With the Introduction of ETMs in CTU, all stake-holders viz. Passenger, Crew and CTU management are a gainer. Passengers will now get a fully informative printed ticket on the spot. Ticket has total amount in bold letters, distance in KM, number of passengers, adult, child, time of issue, ticket serial number, bus number, conductor id, depot name, etc. ETM machines will make the task of Conductors easier as it will get quick to clear the bus and also to prepare the waybill at the end of the day. The reconciliation of the cash deposited shall be automatic. Consolidated reports shall be available to CTU management which shall be helpful in analyzing the data regarding origin and destination which earlier was not possible with punched tickets. It shall help in better route planning and enhancing the receipts. The Quantum AEON has assisted CTU in the project and customization of ETM software with existing set-up.
From today the ETM will start on 05 routes i.e Delhi, Shimla, Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar. First all the inter-city routes shall be covered by the end of this month and subsequently ETMs shall be introduced in City buses also. These ETMs are enabled with RFID card readers. This shall help CTU in launching RFID technology based cards like Metro Card for easy transaction and better management.
