Chandigarh 19th October:- The day of Karwa Chauth is celebrated mostly amongst the entire North Indian community settled either in India and other parts of the world. The most important aspect of this day is that a dawn to dusk fast is undertaken by the North Indian ladies and seeing the moon they finally break the fast. The fast is unique perhaps because nowhere in the world does a wife go without food or water just to pray for the longevity and well-being of her husband.

To celebrates the festival Hotel Cove organized a unique party as we treat all guests as VVIP,s and had made all arrangements for their  entertainment, all fasting wives enjoyed  perhaps the most unique parties in the world, as they don't eat during the parties, and just dance, play games, celebrate the beauty of getting traditionally dressed, and selfie corner, shopping stalls of cosmetics, jewelry and kitchen items; Fashion show too was part of the party. The traditional significance remains intact, just that it is a fun festival as well, not just fasting.  Giving details about the importance of the festival one of the participant lady said that Karwachauth is starting from early morning, around 4 A.M., women get up before sunrise and eat "Sargi" food consisting of Pheni (made up of milk and semolina), coconut, sweets and cereals. After sunrise they do not eat and drink anything till they worship moon at night.
In the evening, women dress up in special clothes, usually a red or pink sari or 'lehenga-choli' with gold woven 'zari' patterns. New brides often wear their bridal costume. All deck up in jewelry, the best make up and wear mehandi  or henna patterns especially on the hands. Decorative bindis on the forehead are a must for all women taking part in this celebration. Fasting women from all over the neighborhood gather in a group and narrate mythological stories that underscore the significance of Karwa Chauth. And, of course, all wives expect lavish gifts from their husbands!

If the husband is present, the wife will worship him with Panchopchar or gandh, pushpa, dhoop, deep and naivedya (perfume, flower, incence, lamp and food). If the husband is away on travels, the wife offers a prayer to Almighty to grant long life to her husband. After this, she may eat as the fast is over.
