Chandigarh 21st November:- The Department of Home Science, MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organized a workshop on Block Printing and Tie & Dye in an endeavour to familiarize the students with the traditional art from Rajasthan and to foster its revival. Textile expert Mrs. Ratti Arora conducted the workshop and demonstration on creative art of printing and dyeing.
Mrs Ratti Arora demonstrated the art of using blocks of different sizes and patterns to create awe-inspiring designs. She also taught the use of blocks for creating borders as well as central motifs for variety of products such as pillow covers, scarves, cushion covers, mobile pouches, table runners, floor runners etc. The students also learned the making of printing pastes and dyes from scratch. Mrs. Ratti also emphasized the fact that knowledge of this art can enable the students to create at home, a variety of products at much more economical prices than their expensive market substitutes.
The students enthusiastically participated in the workshop and created mesmerizing motifs and designs.
The Principal of MCM, Dr. Nisha Bhargava, was all praises for this unique event and said that knowledge of this creative art form can be translated into an opportunity of entrepreneurship for the girls and hence empower them to be women of substance.
