Chandigarh 05th August:- The Education Minister, Punjab, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema today visited the 2 schools of Banur sector as part of an exercise to get acquainted with the problems faced by Government schools and to establish a rapport with the students. During his visit to Government Senior Secondary School Banur and Government High School Dharamgarh, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema fulfilled the long pending demand of the students on the spot regarding providing free coaching for preparation of competitive exams.
Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema assured the students of Banur school that free coaching would be provided by Government to the students of Government schools at cluster or block level in order to mitigate the circumstances of students who take expensive coaching. He said that this would materialize at the end of current session. Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema further said that the science lecturers of Government schools would give coaching to the students. He said that more than 1600 students had availed the free coaching facility provided at District level in a first of its kind experiment.
Divulging more Dr. Cheema said that because of the long duration and cumbersome study process in becoming a doctor, lesser number of students are opting for Medical stream. He also listed lack of interest in Biology also as the reason for lack of interest in Medical discipline. He also said that the students getting 80 percent or more marks in 10th standard would be given free education in meritorious schools or scholarships.
Inspecting the science and computer labs, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema asked questions from the students and also made a personal inspection of career guidance cells. He also expressed satisfaction at the intake of more than 1000 students at Banur School. Dr. Cheema also inspected the EDUSAT system at Dharamgarh school and expressed happiness at the progress of the students.
