Six Researchers from PGI Neuroscience Research Lab Secures National Travel Awards

Chandigarh 05th July:- Six Researchers from Neuroscience Research Lab, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh have secured highly competitive national travel awards from DST, DBT and CSIR to present their neuroscience research together at 9th International Brain Research Organization(IBRO) World Congress which is being held in Rio-de Janeiro, Brazil from 7-11th July 2015. IBRO is an International Organization spearheading brain research programs through conferences, schools, advocacy in the world through Brain Awareness Weeks and mobilizing resources of developing world through return home fellowships. The success rate of national travel awards obtained by these students range from 10% to 30% where 300-400 applications are received from all over the country. The seven member researcher's delegation will be led by IBRO Alumni and Neuroscientist, Dr Akshay Anand,  Additional Professor and Editor in Chief of Annals of Neurosciences who has been a resource person in several IBRO schools in the world. This is the biggest 7 member contingent from one group representing with support from Govt. Travelling and learning together will be important for skill development, team building and knowledge generation in re-emerging economies like India. The researchers include Dr Avijit Banik, Gillipsie Minhas, Sridhar Bammidi, Rahul Tyagi, Kaushal Sharma and Parul Bali apart from team leader. The collaborators in these research presentations include Dr S Prabhakar, PGI, Jaswinder Kalra, PGI, Dr Suresh Sharma, Panjab University, Dr Bimla Nehru, Panjab University, Dr Kim Vaipei, PGI, Dr Manju Mohanty, PGI, Dr Nickerson, USA, Dr Biju Thomas, USA and Dr Ramandeep Singh, PGI. The alumni of Reseach lab, all of whom are placed in USA were overjoyed to learn about the news and hailed the occasion as 'moment of pride' for the Neuroscience Research Lab.
