Chandigarh 18th May:- The Indian Dental Association, Chandigarh branch organized a lecture and interaction with Dr. Vijay Prakash Mathur, Additional Professor, Centre for Dental Education and Research, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi at Hotel Aroma to sensitize the practicing dentists about the role of dental professionals in tobacco cessation. It was attended by practitioners, faculty members and students from the tricity and around. A full day training course would be organized in the coming months to enable the practitioners to offer basic counselling for tobacco cessation under the "Tobacco Training Initiative" by IDA.
Dr Ashok Utreja, the President of IDA, Chandigarh Branch and Ex Head of Department, Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh, pointed out that tobacco usage is a major public health hazard affecting the lives of billions of persons. It causes significant changes in a person's mouth and counselling is the first step on the road to quitting.
Dr. Aditi Kapur, General Secretary of IDA, Chandigarh Branch and Assistant Professor, Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh highlighted that IDA is committed to work to have a no-tobacco society in the coming years and also to aggressively pursue the target of a caries free population.
