Chandigarh 08th March:-- Dipesh Sekhri, the Dance instructor and Choreographer of Salsa and other dance forms is teaching nuances of the Latin American couple dance form – Salsa, in a three day workshop – RCCH Salsa Slam Season 5. The event which has a noble objective – that of helping girls from weaker section of society, got off to a pulsating start at Ambedkar Bhawan, Chandigarh. RCCH Salsa Slam is being organised by Rotaract Club Chandigarh Himalayan (RCCH). The members of this club come from colleges of the city with a majority being from UIET, PEC, MCM, PU etc. The workshop is seeing keen participation by Salsa loving couples who are learning the graceful dance from a young yet seasoned dance instructor. The fact that Salsa is being used to create a charity fund for the not so fortunate, has made the activity quite different from usual dance extravaganzas.

This year Dipesh is being ably assisted by Ms. Khwab Arora who herself specializes in different forms of dances especially Hip Hop and Salsa, and the duo is imparting training in to as many as 200 couples. Dipesh is teaching technical concepts of Salsa.  Dipesh, said that Salsa is being taught in three simple ways to the couples. By use of Salsa Dance Step Timing- the way the dance steps fit into the music is called the ‘step timing’ or just ‘timing’. Secondly, i am also making use of Follow-the-leader, traditionally in Salsa Dance the Man is the Leader and the Woman is the Follower. Together the Leader and the Follower are known as Dance Partners or simply Partners. The third aspect of my training is ‘Closed position’ or ‘European’ with the Man facing the Woman.

It is noteworthy that RCCH Salsa Slam is an annual happening and has been a big success in the past 4 years. The workshop will culminate in a grand finale on March 9 -- the last day. The mega finale will be witnessed by people who will be allowed entry with a nominally priced paid pass, 300 passes have been sold. The revenue generated from this event will be used to meet expenses of the event and the balance amount as a tribute to women on women’s day; will go towards the education of underprivileged girls.
